Not oldschool by any means, but I've been looking for years for a Dirt Bros Shortbus frame . . . can't see it happening - heck, I can't even find any pics online - used to have a Y2Kish Dans Comp catalogue with the range in but it got ruined in a freak plumbing accident >:( . I've owned Shortbus, Patriot and Trail R Park frames in the past . . . maybe it's just rose-coloured specs as the Shortbus build is the only one I don't have a pic of (sold it to someone off bmxtalk iirc).
Still have the marks on my kitchen floor from bashing the b/b cups into that Trail R Park - took a good few hours ;) and I well remember the chap at my LBS struggling to press Pig headset cups into the Shortbus . . . tight or what!
-
A Redline Carrera for me, would oggle over them in the early 80s. :)
Has anyone got one and could show me a pic? Just so I can do a bit of oggling again ::)
-
I'm surprised this hasnt been picked before:
JMC DY.
For me the ultimate race BMX and the one I wanted BITD.
Would love a Nat pro Long and a Profile champ in the collection to.
Haro sport for freestyle.
-

why does every one like ta they are like clits every %^&* has one ?
I'm with you on that one Ian, I wanted one, got one, built one, rode it, didn't like it, flogged it..... :LolLolLolLol:
Race = ProClass (never even saw one in the flesh as a nipper, finally got a very early one last year!)
Freestyle = Haro Sport (got one now :2funny: - had a Gen1 and FST but they were a little too short so a bit wobbly!)
And finally......
Old School icon - my 1978 Team Mongoose, 100% Cromoloy, the fore-runner of the Supergoose, the first year Mongoose made them and she still rides like a dream 31 years later :smitten:
Spen :daumenhoch:
-
Loved Haros the most BITD and would still love a blue 86 sport, an 87 or 88 team sport. But now I think I'd like a cali red 86 RL20II. like the ones in the adverts... 8)
-
My dream was definitely a 1979/80 MCS magnum - with the large gusset.
It was my 1st proper BMX race bike, and I loved it so much.
However, after taking me about 4 years to find one, and get the same original parts for it I found it was rediculously small to ride on, and I lost all love for it.
So it's just sitting in the shed now.
I did the same with my 1980 Team Mongoose build - even got the right cranks for it as well as loads of really pukka parts, that were damn close to perfect nick. BUT I couldn't find a proper suede saddle for it and after about 2 years of trying to get one I just gave up and sold the lot off for a stoopid loss! (Recon I lost about 400 quid all in - guess I shoulda just held onto the parts cos I could use a lot of em now on my Supergoose 2 build.)
Dream bike now?
LOL - I just dream of being able to get on my old school ride and get on a track.
Maybe once the dust has settled on stuff going on in my life right now I'll be able to get out on it. (Or perhaps i should race now and again with a pseudonym...)
-
Kastan uni blade. 8)
-
For me it was always the Kuwahara Laserlite I wanted got a NOS one.
Always liked the Nomura so got one.
Freestyle
Kuwahara Exhibitionist 1st Gen 1984 got one.
CW Luggage Rack got one.
Holy grail would be a 1979 Kuwahara KE-1 not a great bike by any means but would complete my Kuwahara collection.
bodamus :)
-
Torkers and robinsons for me ,got ,got got and got !
-
I think my holy grail is still an ACE Racing Pro :smitten:
I think Ratty has one and that's about it :(
-
Marty, is that gusset on all those Ace bikes if so I think I passed on one a few years back ??? It had good quality parts on it aswell I just didnt know what it was? I dithered about and he sold it the following week, please dont tell me they are worth a fortune ::)
-
realistically I want a Torker MX Long 8)
-

Yep, same gusset on all of them, not worth a lot to anyone except maybe KDUBBMX, Ratty and myself ::). Very rare though, the one Tony has/had/knows who has one is the first I have seen since mine got stolen in 1982.
-
bitd i wanted a candy red ripper with gold decals, like the one in the ad.
-
One of these 4......
MRD
Zeronine
Rickman
all of these would have to be race bikes rather than freestyle.
Or my GJS race bike back from back in the day.
-
sid salisburys floval
-
hutch pro star.i still remember abbmx having an article on it bitd saying"the first £1000 bmx" thats stuck with me to this day, that one of mark J's(i think ) in the museum is to die for :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
Gotta be mine too, that one of Mark J's is one of the nicest bikes i've ever seen!!
-
Some real nice bikes mentioned on here guys,
but clear your mind and picture the elusive, the unpredictable, the glamorous...........................Tuff burner, blue frame and yellow tuffs isn't it? wasn't it?
-
I can honestly say I own my two dream bikes, chrome TA and a white Rebel Freestyler.
TA... well cos its a TA basically, and those ads on the back cover of every issue of BMX Action always stuck with me.
But more so the Rebel cos a mate had a Rebel when I was a kid and I thought it was dead exotic (didnt realise they were made in the West Mids, always thought it was American), cos I always adored twin top tube frames (only one I remember anyone having was a lad with an Ammaco Freestyler), and white cos white BMX are well 80's.
If I had to choose one more though, it would be the full on bling chrome Hutch Pro Star as mentiond earlier, that I remember a BMX Action competition where you could win one and couldnt believe a BMX could be worth a grand (in 1985!)
-
Gotta be Bassetts for me ;)

-
For me it has to be a "Mudcruncher" :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol:
Nah, am building my dream build now..... pics up in a couple of days :daumenhoch:
-
could never understand how the hutch cost a grand here.when you compare the price in america for one compared to say a lazerlite and the exchange
rate of the time it looks like they stuck about £300 on over here just for the hell of it.btw, loved lazerlites and gt pro's when i was a kid and got both now
but i'd love a red and chrome JMC DY or a gusseted Robinson pro with the blue and red mixed parts.
-
Thanks chaps for the few nice words about the Pro Star, very flattering :)......but to be precise the UK retail price wasn't £1000, it was a crazy..........£1200! ($799 in USA). In 1984 our mummy's and daddy's weren't going to stump up even half that for a bicycle so its inevitable it would have been a dream bike as a kid, out of reach and have an air of exclusivity to it. And that probably stayed with a few of us for 25 years. I will admit it is a nice bike to own, still enjoy it. Was certainly my dream bike.
-
Got mine :smitten:
Just need some spare folding to finish it off proper.

For all the Radders who built the T/A's and didn't like the ride ::)
You should've got your hands on a T/A XL :4_17_5:
The T/A is an great looking bike and has cool factor as it was the first teardrop frameset :smitten:
plus they look good in either chrome or white :coolsmiley:
