Thought it would be nice to see aload of the current race bikes in one thread, not show ponies, the bikes you actually race at the mo :daumenhoch:
Just cleaned my ammaco ready for the muck and blaver at the weekend ::)

It was built as a show pony/carpet queen, but I just couldn't help myself but put it on the dirt!
Also just thought I'd give a brief history of this bike for anyone that decides to read back this far...
Got it built for my birthday in 1983 and raced it the very next day after taking delivery, at the NEC (was it Kellogs or Halfords?) championships (featuring Bob Haro).
Raced a few times at Redditch but didn't really compete as I was too small really, didn't start growing until I was 16 lol!
Obviously rode it on the street etc for the next few years... then sold it to a work colleague in the early 90's for £60.00 because I needed the money!
10 years later he asked if I wanted it back as his kids had stopped using it, and it was just lying unloved in his back garden!
So I got it back, my Dad did it up for my kids using any old bits just to get it back to a rideable condition, painted it black and put Diamond Back stickers on it!
Again after some good hard use over 7 or 8 years it was left unloved in my garage until a mate told me about this site and I decided to do it up as close to its original spec as possible.

I've only had a chance to race it once this year :-[ - the first regional at Hayes. Been in the loft ever since except for showing at MK09 where it got a medal. Very sad indictment of my race intentions, but my boy plays county development cricket so no racing...

thanks to MADD DOGG for spotting it for me :daumenhoch:

nice score jon, nice plate too :daumenhoch:
-
Looking forward to seeing you race it Jon. Lytham?
I do like that number plate.
-
Cheers it's a Haro Group 1, and a JIVE! number panel. All in good working order but very heavy/cheap wheels and cranks/pedals - the rest of it will be decent after a polish.
Lytham is not looking good as I have a paying gig that day, so unless the gig or the race move I won't make it. Shame as it looks more like a proper old BMX track than most... I don't usually have many Sunday gigs so as soon as the regional dates are published I'll get those race dates reserved, same for Milton Keynes and Bob Fields Grands if they don't clash with prior bookings.
-
Nice one Jon!!
The tires look a little freestyleeeeeee to me so pop down your local wilkinsons and buy some compIII copies.
Give us some better pics of the beast and a rundown on parts, so we can look out for some parts for you.
Replacing the Tires and pedals is the main job. You chainwheel might be a 43t so that might be better as a 44t.
Are your rims chromed. Too shiny shiny and you'll have probs stopping in the wet. Cheap alloy sets or just an alloy rear wheel or rim will do you. If the wheels are steel then maybe just a set of cheap alloy rims and a respoking might do ya.
Heavy wheels wont bother you but being able to stop is always a bonus.
It wont take much tinkering to sort it out to race spec!! :daumenhoch:
LMK if you need owt? :)

Just got a pair myself on Monday - £4.29 each!! Bargain, so long as you want 1.75's.

I 'raced' mine once, does that count? ::)
Fook it, here it is anyway, it's Christmas and I'm in a 'don't care' mood :)

Cheers guys.
Changing the tyres is a 5 minute job so I can do that when needed. I won't change the pedals yet as I think I might go for a 3-piece crank which will need 9/16 pedals.
I reckon I might just get it cleaned up as it is for now, get all the bearings greased and done up. Then just get used to riding it for a couple of weeks and in the mean time get the Felt cruiser sold to free up more funds. Yes the wheels are in a flaking chrome finish! Good thing is that they run straight and true so will be okay for general riding for a bit. I've also got a nice Haro padset on the way from Oz, might not be period-correct but fit the general colourscheme of the bike, ie black.
I really should take some before and after pictures so I'll do that in a new thread.

Ive sorted the seat guts issue out aswell... Its the same gearing as my FMF but the bike seems a lot quicker nad the long toptube makes it feel comfortable to ride. Shame I will have to wait to race it now though... Are any tracks rideable tommorow, Im on nights this weekend so can get out and about?
