coolio 8) great news

Great news.
With Redditch and Perry Park and the UCI BMX World Championships coming to Brum in 2012, think Birmingham should be re-named BMXland :)
Now, if they could only re-build the Chelmsley Eagles track ::)

COME ON YOU BEAUTY!
Rookie and Benn have been at this tirelessly with local chavs in opposition all the way.
Great work and may get some up for getting the trails going again.
Chelmsley - loved that place. Massive start hill and a million mph into the doubles out of 1st corner.
-
yeah big well done to benn and steve for all the work they have put in.
it now means i shall have a flood lit track five mins from my house :daumenhoch:

Think it will be my local too Matt, although I live in B'ham, it's quicker to get to Redditch. :idiot2:
Were your ears burning last week? :LolLolLolLol: Was in touch with an old work mate (Tim Laight) and your name came up.
-
Not seen tim for a few years. Used to ride with him 25 years ago, small world lol

I've been trying to get some of the big names in BMX to become fans of Redditch Premiers (facebook).
So far got the OM, Ruffell & last but not least Sarah Walker :smitten:

the old football changing rooms are being changed first so we have a new club house then the actual work starts on the track. Hopefully it should be finished for April :daumenhoch:
I will update with pics as it comes along

Spent a lot of time in it but didn't know the name. :LolLolLolLol:
Someone on facebook asked the same question about the track location, makes sense what they said, if you're on it have a look or something..

the new track is otherside of skatepark from the old track. the plan is to have trails on old track, then skatepark then new track. if you look at last pic you can see skatepark and new track, old track is left of park in the pic
:daumenhoch:
-
As Matt said old track is still there all be it tiny bumps and parts we've dug trails through.
Pity it could'nt be on the old track site with all the history n that. Epic Anglo American racing BITD.
New track is much better placed with the changing rooms etc.
Still pinching meself its started! :D Will drop down and have a look this week.
-
Is there a layout pic anywhere of what the track should look like ? ( tried RP website & blog but could'nt find one :-\ ).

See you there Dave :daumenhoch:

I saw the new redditch track last weekend but from the info I have been given its not gonna be a place that you can just turn up and roll around on. Properly built by the lotto funds it has a fence around it and will require membership and insurance to use. Not only that but I think you may have to have a proper 'race spec' bike. I'm not sure what that means but I was told carbon forks / correct gearing and tyres. Full face helmet is also a requirement. This is from the guy that runs the skatepark next door. I dont know how true it is but the way the world is going with h+s it wouldnt suprise me.
-
If that is true Ian, what happend to BMX, thought it was meant to be inclusive rather than exclusive ::) So much for lotto funds 'helping the community'.
-
:( I grew up less than 5 mins ride from the original track there .. was always open everyone. Spent most me youth on it.

That sounds a bit far-fetched! Who's gonna be there to calculate your gearing, or decide whether a tyre is any good for a track? I can understand them insisting on some safety gear but it wouldn't surprise me if that dude was stretching the truth a bit. Having said that I've only experince of tracks that are properly open to the public with no fencing etc. What's the deal at other tracks that are fenced-in?
-
Well if carbon forks are needed that rules me out cause I dont have Any lol it is being fenced off yeah to stop motorbikes, cars etc being used on it. There will also be club membership for using it yes, this is to go towards the cost of running the place. The club has to pay for the flood lights, and cost of maintaining track etc. There is also showers and toilets on site that need to be paid for. As for safety gear being worn, I wouldnt think that should be problem, why would you not wanna protect yourself?
-
Matt i can see plenty of sessions there in the summer this year, 25mins for me
-
Hi Guys,
I dont know where the information came from regarding people needing a race spec bike and membership of the Club to get access to the track, but this is way way off the mark.
The track will be open to anyone to use, everyone is welcome and it is a community facility which is there to encourage use not discourage use, It doesnt matter what bike you are on. Yes of course there will be the usual safety checks to cover our liability insurance. Bikes will need to be safe to use and not likely to endanger the rider or other riders using the track at that time, and yes helmets will definatley be required, but other than that there is no restrictions at all. These sorts of safety checks have to be carried out by all clubs to satisfy their liability insurance, and as Matt said why wouldnt you want to protect yourself against injury. if you dont have a helmet or If people turn up with there bike falling to bits then you can always use a Club bike or borrow a club helmet, which will be available.
As for costs. We will be charging a nominal fee to ride the track. this is likely to be a few pounds per day, and if you join as a member and pay an annual membership you will get a reduced fee for using the track and for gate practise. We will probably also offer a track and skatepark day pass for those that want to switch between the two facilities through out the day.
Why will there be a charge?
Like Matt said The Club and Redditch Wheels Project have to pay for the running costs. this means staffing, insurance, paying the water, gas, electric bills, maintenance of the track etc etc. As im sure you can appreciate this doesnt come cheap, and we are all just volunteers with families and day jobs. The Redditch facility will be a very professional facility, with its own club house including showers, toilets and locker facilities, in its own compound meaning a safer enviroment for kids using it, staffed by first aid trained staff, floodlite - meaning late night riding during the winter. You wouldnt expect to turn up at your local swimming baths or golf club and not pay anything to use that facility, so why should your local bmx track be any different, and i really think we need to start seeing bmx facilities in the same way as other leisure facilities, it is an olympic sport and should be more professional and be dragged into the 21st century. We are trying to set the president with Redditch.
I hope my post has elayed a few fears, and confirmed to everyone that we welcome absolutley anyone to come and use our new facility. I for one can not wait. We have got some good stuff in the pipeline for this year. Its gonna be a blast :D
If anyone has any questions at all please feel free to email me anytime batbmx25@yahoo.co.uk
Cheers
Benn Thombs
Chairman-Redditch Premiers BMX Club
Secretary and Trustee- Redditch Wheels Project

Thanks Matt, and Benn for the comprehensive reply, sounds far much better than what was initially thought, straight from the horses mouth so to speak :daumenhoch:
Gotta say, massive respect for doing this re time, money, organisation etc, can't imagine the logistics of getting this together so the last thing needed is a beating down.
Will love to see it once complete and I'm sure a lot of Radsters will......think a large dose of bravery pills might have to be in stock for us oldies though ;D
Props
-
Popped up today to see how it's going, how f£cking big are modern tracks!
The site as a whole looks great, good carparking, changing facilities & shitehouses, with the added bonus of a boozer next door. :daumenhoch:

It is in the southern half of England, never mind the UK.
Still, it's almost impossible to get away from the southern bias in most things - at least MK is an easy drive down the M1 :daumenhoch:

Just some info about Redditch as there has been a few enquiries.
Track opening - The track is pretty much done now. Went up today and the Floodlights are now all up and ready to go. The track is done bar a bit more watering and rolling/wackering. Biketrack.org are just finishing off the finish line area, pens, back of the start hill, and putting top soil down on the sides of jumps and backs of berm etc to generally just tidy the track up. They should be finished by the end of the week.
We havent got an official opening date yet. It is likely that we will need to sign the lease agreement with the Council and tie up a few more loose ends like insurance etc before we are able to open. So all i would say is we will be posting up on here and on our blog when we have an opening date so dont make the journey over until you get word from us coz i dont want it to be a wasted journey for anyone. We are working hard on this and we are dying to get it open for us all to enjoy so just bare with us
Membership- Our membership form is done and ready to go live. This should be available to download off our blog in the next couple of days. Tim Print @ http://www.shooma.co.uk is reconstructing our site as we speak so all updates and membership will be on the blog. There is a link to the blog from www.redditchpremiers.co.uk You can also register yourself at that web address for any updates. All membership costs and details will be on the form and as soon as its live you can start sending them in.
Membership tariffs are as follows
standard Junior Membership(under 18's) - £15 per year - and £2 per session
Standard Adult Membership(18 and over) - £25 per year - and £2 per session
Gold junior Membership (under 18's) - £100 - unlimited free use
Gold adult membership(18 and over) - £150 per year - Unlimited free use
Non Members will pay £4 for every session
This is a facility with a difference. the facility is in its own compound. it includes a Clubhouse with Club room, kitchen, shower and toilet facilities, first aid room. The track is also floodlite. Dont forget that 150 yards from the track is a huge bmx orientated competition skatepark ( we had the French WE THE PEOPLE TEAM down there the other day). The track and skatepark facilities will be run side by side and we will offer day tickets so people can come for the day and ride both facilities at a very very reasonible reduced rate (tba) We think that this is a facility like no other in the UK and is setting the bench mark for how all serious BMX track facilites should look, and run.
We have to pay for all the running costs like water, electric, gas, insurance, track maintenance, and the biggest cost of all staffing. If we want the facility open all the time we have to staff it all the time, and as im sure you can imagine this isnt going to be cheap.
We will look forward to welcoming you all to our new facility very very soon.
-
Cheers Matt for the updated pics , looks sweet :daumenhoch: .
I've reservations on a £ 150.00 per year membership cost for Gold package but good luck with it :daumenhoch: .
As you say , keep us updated . It'd be cool to visit some time soon'ish ;) .
-
Yep know what you saying about gold membership, does sound expensive but it works out at £3 a week. If you use track 3 or 4 times a week then you get good saving. Also with the membership will come a discount package at certain shops, these are being finalised at moment.
Matt
-
might sound expensive but like you say, if you use the track/facilities every week then it's a damn site cheaper than a gym membership :daumenhoch:
