I recently bought these and 1 of them is badly buckled :(
This photo is taken when the rim is sat flat on a level table, the gap shows the deflection :(

Will the buckle come out when it is built up or do I need to try and straighten it first?
How the heck would I do straighten it too? :-\
Any ideas anyone?
Cheers Ben

Ben, I sold u this!
When you build it up it will come straight out, if this was steel or ally then you would have a problem. I can recommend this book http://www.amazon.co.uk/Building-Bicycle-Wheels-Robert-Wright/dp/0890371067/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=12 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Building-Bicycle-Wheels-Robert-Wright/dp/0890371067/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=12) BITD I used to build everyones wheels after getting this book when I was 13. Try and practise on an old or fooked wheel. Any probs PM me.

As Toys said, that will come straight out if built properly :daumenhoch:
-
Put them in the freezer :LolLolLolLol: :2funny:
(how many times have we heard that in the past....)
-
I've built up a few Z's and most of them have been like that if not worse, the spoke tension will true them up, no problem :daumenhoch:
After all the rims are only plastic...
-
I've seen plenty of brand new rims that were straight when they arrived, by the time some muppet laced them up they werent....
-
ben defoo when they are laced up they will come true mate 100%
-
Wicked news! Big smiles all round. :daumenhoch:
They are currently in a big bucket of dye . . . getting a tan!
-
AS everyone has said that will come out as soon as they're laced.
Thre's loads of different methods to lacing a wheel though. A lot of people like the Sheldon Brown way of doing it. I think that Stidds 'How To' follows this route. I used this method a lot until I learned the Shraner way of building a wheel. This is so much easier to do than the Sheldon way.
I have a wheel to build tomorrow at work so I'll do a how to then for everyone.

I was just wondering as it's not my era and this problem seems to be solved.
Are ACS Z rims good? I mean are they strong and light? I've always wondered about it you see and why they didn't take off. They are very cool, I just wondered.
-
Well they're light....! :LolLolLolLol:
-
I wouldnt mind a set on my new school.... You wont see many of those at the skatepark.

how did you prep the rims and what dye did you use?
I used CIF to clean them and then 400 grit followed with 600 grit paper and a good wash after.
The rims are now in a bucket of bleach and have gone back to blue :idiot2: I suppose its better then brown though?!
I went and got some RIT dye too, so I think I will try it all again tomorrow.
