Im right handed and have always had my rear brake setup on the LHS; Im starting to think this is not common..??
Im only mentioning it as today at a local skatepark, a young new-school kid came over and started talking to me and I noticed he also had his rear brake on the left..
So, for the rear brake, what side is "normal"?? Im not about to change (I couldn't if I tried!), Im just curious..

Paul

BITD wasn't it the Yanks ran 'em RH and most UK riders LH?? ::)
-
I run my rear on the left, I think its classed as 'normal' but to be honest I think you just go with what feels good for you :daumenhoch:

for me it has to be left for the rear :Great_Britain:

I'm a RH rider. Nearly killed a mate I sold my road bike to a few years back as I had swapped the brakes round :LolLolLolLol:

Whatever fells right.
For BMX I run the rear on the right.
However, when I run a front brake I have the rear on the left and the front on the right - just what feels correct.
[I'm reminded of the joke about which hand you use to wipe your bum. Don't you use toilet roll like everyone else? :D]

Left for me... :daumenhoch:

The reason UK bikes have the right on the left is so when you are on the road, turning right (and signaling right with your right hand) your left hand can pull the rear brake. If you ride one handed and pull the front brake it tends to buck you off. :daumenhoch:
When i first set my first BMX up i figured Im right handed so i should have the right brake on that side. Ive stuck with it ever since.
In BMX its usual to have the rear brake at the top side when you do an air (the other side to the way you rotate). In the 80s when people would pull the back brake to do an air most people took the bottom hand and foot off and pulled the rear brake. There was a trend to swap the brakes round or even put 2 rear brake levers on so you could do top hand, bottom foot off. They were Called "Eddie airs" cos Eddie Fiola rode with his brakes with the rear on the bottom side.
Man, i know some junk :crazy2:

I'm right handed and use the left side for the rear - right for front
i'm more precise with my right hand and so can tamer the right amount of pressure for the front and not just slam on the front brake with my left hand ;)

rear on the left for me :daumenhoch: :Great_Britain:

I had it on the right, then about killed myself when i pressed the right hand on ed's bike because I thought it was the rear :LolLolLolLol:

always been left hand rear brake for me, although on my ammaco 202 build i have dia-compe 901s on and it didn't look right so i switched them over. it just looks right to have the brake cable cross over the front of the bars going to the back brake.
