I've deleted the old build thread as it was getting too long. Here's the new edited one.
I've always been an adidas fan, and have also wanted to do a custom build for a while. The idea to combine the two began at MK12 when I saw these dustcaps being sold by rad member scotty b.
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/af3/dancetothedrummersbeat/adidas%20custom%20BMX/P1000859.jpg) (http://s988.photobucket.com/user/dancetothedrummersbeat/media/adidas%20custom%20BMX/P1000859.jpg.html)
I wanted to base the build on a haro sport/fst shape frame. I missed out on Wini's Peregrine expert, but I got a tip off that member curtispro was selling his mid 90's diamondback venom that had been badged up and powdered as a haro replica. It was in very good nick when I got it, with full haro decals in place. The pic below shows it when I was part way through stripping the powder (was a bugger to get off!).
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/af3/dancetothedrummersbeat/adidas%20custom%20BMX/P1010173-1.jpg) (http://s988.photobucket.com/user/dancetothedrummersbeat/media/adidas%20custom%20BMX/P1010173-1.jpg.html)
I wanted to remove all traces of the bike bearing a brand, in this case diamondback (no offense diamondback fans!). I therefore needed the db logos and diamond shaped holes in the gussets & drop outs filling in. I also wanted the cable guides on the frame and forks removing. Only one person to send it to then: Phil (Sawzall) (thanks Phil!). He did an amazing job, and also removed the rest of the powdercoat.

The frame & forks were then sent to Superbike Dan to be powdered in white. As usual, the quality of Dan's work is amazing. Thanks Dan!
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/af3/dancetothedrummersbeat/adidas%20custom%20BMX/P1010193.jpg) (http://s988.photobucket.com/user/dancetothedrummersbeat/media/adidas%20custom%20BMX/P1010193.jpg.html)
I worked on the artwork for the padset and decals and sent them to Steve (Firebird), and Del respectively. Both did a brilliant job as per usual. Del even made me up a decal that wasn't included in my original artwork (the rectangular one of the seat downtube).

I bought a set of white Mike Buff Z Rims from rad member dj-paul-c. They were in good nick, although yellowing, and the Mike Buff logo had been almost sanded/blasted out. A while ago, I posted up a question on how to dye Z rims. Thanks to Bendycat Eleventeen & Retrodan72 for their help and advice. Also thanks to Gaz rollin72 for his 'how to guide'.
After sanding down with wet & dry
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/af3/dancetothedrummersbeat/adidas%20custom%20BMX/P1010496_zps2900907a.jpg) (http://s988.photobucket.com/user/dancetothedrummersbeat/media/adidas%20custom%20BMX/P1010496_zps2900907a.jpg.html)
Retrodan kindly gave me a few tins of Madonna blue dylon, and I bought a few more to beef up the dye mix. Oh dear. Despite using salt and boiling water, the dye just would not take to the rims and left them a dirty lavender colour. I bleached them for 4 days, sanded them down using wet & dry paper, bought 5 packets of royal blue rit dye and 2 tubs of salt and here you are!

New A'me cam grips.

Apologies to anyone that I've forgot to thank for their help in getting this build together.

That is ace Andy, really nice balance of colour.
I could see some trendy trainer shops would go nuts over that as a store piece
:daumenhoch:
-
Some might say it's a 'Bobby Dazzler' Andy ... im thinking more ' Adi Dassler !!' :D ...... i'll get my coat
Looks great Andy , I love it :smitten:

Top stuff mate! Youve done a cracking job there :daumenhoch:
-
Looks good. But shouldn't the chainring be on the other side of the spider? :daumenhoch:
-
Lovely project, mate, but I am confused.... where have the Diamond cut outs on the Dropouts disappeared to?
Am I missing something?
:idiot2:
-
I think you missed the paragraph where he said they were filled in... :)

Looks good. But shouldn't the chainring be on the other side of the spider? :daumenhoch:
On the outside? No - the spider has an offset. The chainline would be about 8mm out if he fitted it the way you describe. ???
The bike looks pukka now that it is all done. :daumenhoch:
-
Fantastic, the passion and thought that has gone into it is there for all to see :4_17_5:

Love it, great work!

How about a trim trabb inspired build from someone next? dark blue/argentina sky blue combo ? 8)
or how about a hutch trickstar inspired by diadora borg elites ( that's white with gold parts for the unitiated :D)
Ant ;D
-
I like custom theme builds - not many being done at all so it's refreshing to see something other than a stock remake. :daumenhoch:
-
amazing amount of effort gone into that mate - top work :daumenhoch:
-
And now for something completely different 8) Great job Andy, love it :daumenhoch:

No probs. Thanks for sharing it. I'd love to send a pic to adidas, and would get a buzz seeing it in one of their ad campaigns. I'd probably get a court order and destruction notice from them though!

A unique custom bike. It is lovely. :smitten:
Did you use etch primer under the white on the stem? I am going to paint some parts, stem, BB cups and headset cups, white and have been told to use etch primer.
Simon.

Superb Andy I love it

Hi. I just used regular car trade primer in grey. The same with the white. Trade gloss white. Trade clear lacquer. There has been a bit of paint loss in the semi circular grooves where the clamp meets the bars. I think this was my fault for not tightening up the bolts enough, and the bars moved, causing some cracking/paint loss.
I'm sure superbike dan would be able to give you some expert advice on prep work. Good luck :daumenhoch:

Have you seen this ???

I think it was Joff that told me about that one when I had just started getting the parts together for my build. I wasn't aware of it before then. There was a pic of it posted up on my original resto thread for this, but I deleted it as it was getting too long. I really love the cut-out gusset, but the rest looks a bit lazy. Dare I blow my own trumpet and say mines better? :-[ Go on then. Mines better! :D I wonder if that one will sell at that price?

Top job. :daumenhoch:
Nice to have something that you know no fooker else has got. ;)
