Right, I started this by accident earlier last year. A guy over on RB.com owed me some money so I took this in lieu of payment, Nov 2012.
Anyway, a pal of mine Crazy Dave who's a powder coater is building a Dyno Compe frame and forks I gave him, and when he was in the man cave last June collecting some parts suggested that instead of payment, he'd powder cost this for me. ;)
So when it returned, it stood for a few months, but after looking round the man cave, realised I had parts to sling on it. :coolsmiley:
Now, I know Burners aren't everyone's cup of tea, but RAD has been slated previously for showing snobbery towards them. But in my new role as a Mod, I'm hoping to change that, like it or not, they were part of UK BMX history, so if you don't like it, move on. :LolLolLolLol:
So, here's a few progress pics:

I'm lovin' those custom decals Dan :smitten:
I don't care what people say...I loved my burner bitd its all we could afford....just by putting a haro plate on mine made me feel like bob haro 8)
Great work Dan the Mod ..... now you have risen to such lofty climbs are you the one that is supposed to bring balance to the force? :LolLolLolLol:
I hope this involves poles, scantily clad ladies and a tent at MK14 :LolLolLolLol:
-
Nice job :daumenhoch: looks great and nothing wrong with a burner. Most of us 80's kids started out in BMX on one, or something very similar.
-
That my man is lovely :daumenhoch:
I never had a Burner although I did ride my cousin's from Smuggy c**thorpe to Brigg once only to find they had bulldozed the track!
Not my best idea ever. :idiot2:
-
I generally prefer mk1 burners tbh Dan, but that is REALLY nice. Looks mint, and love just a splash of colour. The orange/green/white combo looks super clean & crisp. The customised decals look
really cool too! Will it get an outing on one of the rides this year? :)

I doubt it mate, they're shite on rides with a 40t. :daumenhoch:

Top job with that Dan...........not a fan of the MK2 but you've done it proud :daumenhoch:
-
You've done a cracking job on that Dan.....can I finger blast you? :surprise:

Well put together Dan, that looks the Dogs mate :daumenhoch:
Nice to see a burner on site too :4_17_5:
I'm with you on that, times have changes on here :daumenhoch:

That's a lovely build Dan and I really like it - especially the personalised decals which was a nice touch :daumenhoch:
Your right about burners being a big part of bmx history (like it or not) and most of my mates had them bitd. I could quite fancy doing a super tuff one in my builds for this year.

Go for it mate, a Super Tuff was my first rider build, and I loved doing it.
These Mag's in white came from nowhere in late '84. I remember going to school after the Christmas holidays, and the bike shed was full of the things. :LolLolLolLol:

Been thinking about doing one for a while Dan and you're right - they come with good memories from bitd. A super tuff has now been added to my build list. :daumenhoch:

This is mine built 3 years ago, I still have it although I've changed some bits now, and put the seat guts on the right way.

Might post mine up , when I take some decent pics :)
Really like the Super Tuff too

I remember those. You've done a great job with it Dan :4_17_5:
I did have a Mk1 for a while, you couldn't ride into a close or street without seeing a Burner - a true UK icon of the time.
-
Great job Dan :4_17_5:
Being a limited edition it must be worth a small fortune ;)

I don't understand why mate, they're still BMX's.
I think most people on here just appreciate seeing a nice build or resto.
We've had some builds on here in the last few months that BITD were regarded as POS's, and people have loved them. :coolsmiley:

that looks sweet dan :4_17_5: :daumenhoch:

Fantastic build, I agree (being a newbie here) that there does seem to be a lack of burners and again agree that they are a massive part of BMX history more so here in the UK.
They are also what got me back into it all as they were what I had bitd and what I wanted.
I currently have 3, 2 still being built (a mini burner for the daughter and a Team Aero Pro for me) as well as a Andy Ruffell Team Special.
I'll get some pics up soon.

Yes, there does appear to be a lack of Burners, this seems to be changing just now. I went to MK11 and there was 2 Burners there all weekend, last year, there were loads. Even some of the long serving members and RADmins are jumping on the Burner bus now, so please get your builds up.

Happy to get them up, and sorry for sounding such a newbie but which is the best section to put them up in ? It dosent seem very clear :-[

I agree mate, you can put them up in either Me & My Bikes, they can be put in the Raleigh section of the museum, and also you could put them in the tech & restoration section.
We may need to possibly add a section for street bikes, ie, not freestyle, or race. :daumenhoch:
