Title: Peugeot CPX - NO MORE BLACK WALLS LOL
Post by: rodriguez on May 31, 2014, 07:26 PM
Just picked this up.

Frame is stamped CPX400

Was being used as a display for the Giro D'Italia, old bikes were sprayed pink and placed along the route on roundabouts etc.

Should I clean it up and use it as an OS rider or will I leave as yard art   :-\

If it hadn't been painted pink and put on a roundabout it would never crossed my path.

I don't reckon the spray bomb has done any damage would have been pissed off if it had destroyed the decals but doesn't seem to have any.

Reckon it will come off easy enough and the chrome seems to be underneath, few decentish parts on it which suggests it was one of the models up the range, seat is Condor Supercorsa, Takagi cr-mo crank & spider Victor copy mks pedals, SR stem.

A lot of the parts have been changed over the years, the wheels are an old chrome pair that don't match, rear brake is a weinmann think it should have been lee chi MX900 chi like the front.

Have to say I'm rather pleased as I've had bits sitting and was going to sell them because I'd nothing to put them on  :)

Here's a few more pics and the serial number, if anyone can pin down the model I'd be grateful.

Cheers Flo, going by that I'm thinking it was the CPX 401 and the components on it are suggesting that too, the 401 came with lee chi mx brakes and victor graphite copies standard as far as I can find out.

I mentioned the poor pink bike to my half-cousin who had told me she had the Giro d'Italia pass by near her home

She also sent me a couple of pics from Loughgall of other 'victims'

AFAIK they were all scrap bikes left at the dumps or the recycling depots, the councils involved stumped up the cash for the paint jobs.

Well I was going to use citric acid after looking at the price of it I decided to use some oxalic acid I already had.

Looks a lot better than what it's like up close.

Chrome is not perfect and it'll only polish up so far but I'm not really worried as it'll only be getting a light polish and a rub with the oily rag before I build it.

Chromes a bit shot in places but hey ho think it'll suit what I've in mind for it.

From what I can gather these frame sets were made by AKISU and I'm pretty sure the one I have was a CPX 501.

Couple of pics of the progress so far and it's not for the purists.

Unfortunately the forks were forked so I picked up these LG copies and I think they look alright and it pushed me more towards doing the bike as it might have ended up in the late 80's, early 90's.

Very nice, rod. Like the blackies a lot on that, proper thrasher that looks like - would maybe have picked other bars (...hm..), but they're ok. Really liked the other forks (the akisus), but the 'lg's work well. - mjam  :)

Cheers Flo, it was unfortunate about the forks I was a bit pissed off about that and I agree about the bars but they are the og bars, they sort of grow on you.

Done a wee bit more but still a work in progress.

This looks exactly like a Peugeot cpx 351 , the cw bars , oval tube forks and oval section downtube are all identical to my 351 . Mine also has the same pedals . Does the sticker on the seat tube say that its a UK market bike made in Taiwan ? I will try to put up a picture of mine , if not its on the bmxmuseum gallery with owner name hoodygoodwood .
