Just would like to promote the team at Allen chrome electroplating ltd
I've had my frame and forks done in nickel plate for that old school look, must have taken them hours to polish this frame before plating ,
looks fantastic !!!
If anyone else has had work done by these guys could you please add some pics of their work into this thread (thank you) :daumenhoch:

that's who ive used over the years and there work is second to none, they actually give a fook :daumenhoch:
-
Great thread to have as the 'who's best for chroming?' thread regularly comes up.
-
The turn around can vary depending how busy they are but it's well worth the wait :daumenhoch:
Very pleased indeed !
I posted it to them, told me when it arrived, when completed posted it back well wrapped with next day delivery
-
Looking good :coolsmiley:

As some of you know I've always replied to the 'Who's best for chroming?' question with Allenchrome.
Dave is meticulous in his detail and will take time out to discuss your needs. I'm glad members are seeing great results from him too.
If you want cheap fast chrome, keep on walking. If you want quality then this is the place.
Just a few things he's done for me. (The fingerprints are my work, sorry griff!)

Nice 1! Snoopy, what was the damage on those frame and forks? He looks like the man for sure!
-
So who's best to ask for and speak to there?
-
Just this second got off the phone to them. I was very surprised by the price! I can see a lot of my stuff going to be re chromed now !
-
They were absolutely top of my list when I wanted my rider nickel plated to look like my original o/s Team Goose..... but just came down to available funds in the end so I want with candy blue powdercoating which I regret every time I look at the quality of their work on here.... I should have waited till I had the cash :-\
Handy for me I work in York once a week so one day I will be heading their way :coolsmiley:

Any idea how much they charge for a frame and forks? I haven't got around to calling them yet

not sure to be honest mate and I wouldn't like to guess as I got a quote for my crank arms but if he's available he'll tell you straight away.
-
ok cool ... would be good to get a price list up here on this thread :daumenhoch:
-
that's a good idea! I think it would be best approached as a guide though as I think the price might fluctuate depending on how much work they would have to put into preparing the metal beforehand. I told him about the battlescars on the crank arms and he said just to leave them as they are and he will sort them out. I imagine that it might cost less if it was just a case of stripping and rechroming compared to if theyre in any need of buffing up or anything before being chromed
-
i wonder if they can strip powder ??? ... i'm expecting to have to get that done before i send it
-
Im guessing they can as they strip the old chrome off before re chroming as far as I know so I would think the same could apply to powder

Stripping chrome is totally different. they reverse the process of chroming . .. that wouldnt work with powder .. the chromers i usually use wont touch powdered stuff they said they cant remove it
-
Give them a bell and see bud. I didnt ask about powder removal when i phoned.
-
Yeah wildon mentioned that in his last comment.
-
My frame had paint in the gusset areas and Dave removed this for me before polishing, he puts it in a stripping tank, powder coat is a different matter and I don't think he will be able to remove it.
The other problem with powder coated frames is if it's been bead/sand blasted before it was powdered it's not an ideal surface to start the polishing process for nickel or chrome.
If I had to remove powdercoat I find it easiest to use a plumbers torch and a wire brush but only get it hot enough to remove the powdercoat not to over heat the metal (paint stripper does not touch powder coat) so don't even bother making the mess because last time I tried it, it turned the powder into a sticky chewing gum :LolLolLolLol:.
Dan's the one to ask, he probably has his own method of removing powder :daumenhoch: sometimes things are best left to the professionals

Bobs your mothers brother. Cheers snoopy

Called them today, was very surprised at how expensive it is to have a frame and forks done. £60-80 for forks and £250-300 for a frame  Not sure i will bother
-
This is in the post on it's way back to me at the moment. I sent my 1984 VDC Changa to be re-chromed by Allenchrome. Dave dealt with me, and I have to say his communication, advice and the overall quality of service from him has been fantastic. Cost was £300 including return post. Dave sent me these photos of my frame prior to returning it to me.

looks lush :coolsmiley: Dave and team always do a cracking job, he's also plating a part for me at the moment, :daumenhoch:
-
Picked up the frame today, and the finish is excellent considering the conditon of the frame and the fact that it's been chromed at least 3 times now. Excellent work and communication from Dave. A true master of his trade. Thanks! :4_17_5:

Looks amazing that! Great job!
What was the turn around time from start to finish?
-
It was about 5 weeks. The old chrome already been stripped, so that reduced the turnaround time. I only got the frame done, as the forks were ok.
