Been busy building a "bit" of an extension at my house I bought in Jan. Planning came through in early May so didn't hang about - roof goes on this week.
Every man wants a double garage but what about this bad-boy..... Just finishing my triple :smitten:
3m high, 8.8m wide with two bays at 5.7m and one at 4.6m..... I present the mother of all man-caves :2funny:
[attachment=1]
-
Nice bit of real estate Sven
-
3m high?
You’d have plenty of room for a mezzanine floor then :teef:
-

:LolLolLolLol:
I was actually thinking of putting a 4-post ramp in to get an extra car in there to use the space..... >:D
-
Put the 10.5m span attic trusses up last week - borrowed a little crane from work for the job :2funny:
[attachment=1]
[attachment=2]
-
Roof on now with veluxs done, just waiting for doors :coolsmiley:
[attachment=1]
-
Looking good mate . No more Hobbit hole for you :D
-
Finished at last. Here's the smallest bay at 4.6m deep, the other two are a full 5.7m deep but the wife needs the extra space to brake as she speeds into the space and all my tools and building cr@p is still occupying the 3rd bay :2funny:
Bikes in - check :daumenhoch:
Car in - check :coolsmiley:
[attachment=1]
Looks good from the outside as well, just needs rendering
[attachment=2]
-
That looks great..
An actual garage that you can use..
New builds nowadays your lucky to get a fiat cinquecento to fit.. :LolLolLolLol:
-
That is absolutely amazing Spen! :4_17_5: Brilliant job! fistblump
Did you build this all by yourself?
-
Top quality Spen, :4_17_5:
-
Did you build this all by yourself?
TBH Andy it's surprising how involved you get in things like this. I work in Civil Engineering so know what to do but finding the time is the problem. Luckily I have lots of mates with various trades locally and got them involved to get it finished
I designed it then got an architect to draw up my building regulation plans, then once I had planning permission sorted, I got a mate on-board to help me and knocked down the old garages and outbuildings
[attachment=4]
[attachment=1]
It looks like this from the back, it's effectively a granny flat which we have moved into while we spend the next year or so rebuilding the house. It doesn't look it from the front but the footprint is nearly 100m2 so quite an udertaking
[attachment=2]
Still love the garage the best though..... :smitten:
[attachment=3]
-
Didn't know you're working in Civil Engeneering, but it's quite obvious that there are - besides finding the time some propper skills necessary. I wish you all the energie you need for all the work that is left to rebuild the house. :daumenhoch:
-
Great work Spen! What have you used to hang the bikes up?
-
Mick I actually use some proper brackets that are totally adjustable as they have a heavy duty arm at each end that swing out to any angle so the bikes can be positioned any position you need :daumenhoch:
I'll grab a pic when I get a chance as I can't remember the brand :-\
-
Cheers mate! :daumenhoch:
-
Here you go Mick - these are the better ones, Buzzi "Bicisupport" but I only have 3 of them :daumenhoch:
[attachment=1]
[attachment=3]
Amazon have them but they're not cheap as you will struggle to find them now
https://www.amazon.com/BiciSupport-Wall-Ceiling-Bicycle-Hanger/dp/B00P6FUAGI
The rest I hang up with these fixed type, but they're not the best tbh
[attachment=2]
-
Thanks Spen! :daumenhoch: They look good but sadly, are out of my price range. Thumbs down Have been thinking about something like the hooks below, though worry about waking up in the morning to find all my beloved bikes lying in a crumpled mess on the floor!! I guess you get what you pay for!
-
Mick, it depends if you're riding the bikes or not as you need a bracket that can offset far enough from the wall for a BMX as your bars are usually about 26-30" wide. If you want to display a pony, you can turn the bars and even swap the pedal on one side to be out the way and use much smaller hangers :daumenhoch:
As you can see from the state of my kid's Redlines, it's a miracle they actually get hung on the wall but I need the space for the cars :buck2:
-
done well spen cracking job
-
Been stripping out the old kitchen units today to make my new work bench - it's 5.4m long so I bought a couple of cheap worktops and am going to put some decent shelving up on the wall to sort my cr@p out fistblump
[attachment=1]
-
You don't mess around, do you! :bow:

All my bikes are riders rather than wall-hangers, as it were. Actually, I want to hang them from the rafters - literally in my case as I now live in a 150 year old house with big ol' wooden beams. Here's where I want to put/hang them:-

Man cave upgrade though not a touch on our spens but bigger and now a lot tidier than it first was lots of projects on the go (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190119/b2a60b55ff200d99e3719a9e68990626.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190119/09a975d196481e965672f6bb2e7d9dab.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190119/90164908dae739bcbb81e738c052aed7.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190119/354be687ad7564b50514a9bde9165397.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190119/dbefb1972cd602dd7cf91cbdf483c572.jpg)

Looks tidy Lee.
It feels really good to have a good sort out in the cave. Mine’s having some major improvements this year. Had a good tidy up in there last week though.

That’s what it’s all about mate, and something to remember when filling yours up. I’ve kept the practical stuff (decorating/gardening/camping) away from the garage, as much as possible but had to buy a shed to do this, which wasn’t cheap but this now allows me all the space I need to add only cool stuff that I can stand and talk about with other blokes that pop round.
-
Like your thinking Dan, I also built a summer house for the wife to keep her out the garage. On the side is a shed for my gardening tools and on top is a suspended platform I'm gonna put a treehouse on for the kids when I get time (been a bit busy!) so they'll keep out the garage too :2funny:
[attachment=1]
-
It’s the only way Spen. My Mrs thinks I’m selfish because I have all this space and I’ve moved all the crap out of the garage into the shed at the top of the garden and all Amber’s bikes and scooters into her play house. Janine thinks that the shed is some sort of Ibiza beach bar for use when we’re on the decking. I was quick to point out that we live in the U.K. and we can’t even use the decking for 8 months of the year and that I’m in and out of my cave every other day and want the space for cool stuff.

Some Might fine (Mancavery) going on there fellas ...
Im moving house in the next 2-3 weeks & although i have a (Man house) with no women or kids (bliss) The Garage refurb & Man cave garden (Bar) build are pretty much the 1st things on the agenda...
Cant wait !
-
Been a bit quiet on the mancavery front as been skint due to our good friend the taxman tearing me a fresh one at the end of January..... :shocked: :surprise:
But had to have a shuffle around to get the latest arrivals for the kids bikes up and move a few others as well. All a bit snug now :2funny:
[attachment=1]
Still got a load of building cr@p in the third garage but it's going to be like that for about another 18months at this rate :2funny:

Jesus that volvo only just fits mate :D
-
Was thinking the same thing :shocked:
Would be worried if my misses was parking in that space "nono"
-
Jesus that volvo only just fits mate :D
Don't be daft Carl, there's at least 20mm spare after the tow-bar ::)
The missus uses the middle one that's 1.1m bigger, even though her car is smaller.... it's just safer that way :2funny:
-
Then your mates find out you have a bit of room (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190302/60c572c50aafa72247a4b53e34e3bc42.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190302/8dd8dc42ac02b53bb749b74385a790ad.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190302/603ea8fdeb419207f5778902f635cb38.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190302/1f549eebfd8d527dfe4adb01aec44ee6.jpg)

know what you mean Spen :LolLolLolLol:
have to clear everthing out of the way if my misses is trying to park in the garage "help"
-
Jesus! whos hoarding all those bikes? scaffolding in the living room :shocked:
-
Last update from me as the sun was out so I took a pic of the (almost) finished item. I can't render it until I've finished the house as it's coloured render so needs to be done at the same time, but to say I'm pleased with it is an understatement :coolsmiley:
[attachment=1]
-
Tidy that Spen... is that your man cave above the garage ?
-
Nick, the garage itself is the man-cave mate. Behind the garages there's a big room we've fitted a kitchen & lounge into with a few bedrooms and bathroom above them which is where we're currently living as we can't live in the original house while I practically demolish it and re-build it over the next 12 months :daumenhoch:
There is a second loft above the bedrooms which is the kid-cave. Currently it's got all their Lego and other toys up there but they love it as it has a loft-ladder access and is carpeted & heated up there :daumenhoch:
[attachment=2]
-
Awesome work fella,great job looks very nice :daumenhoch:
If it were me I'd flog the house and move into the garage! ;) Its better than some houses I've owned lol :D
-
Instead of doing something sensible like finishing half-built bikes, I have spent the past week clearing out the big barn-like shed attached to our house. On the plus side, that meant finally doing something about bike storage! I gave up on the idea of hanging bikes from the rafters and instead made a bike stand from old wood lying about the place. I won't win any carpentry awards but at least it works! :daumenhoch:
-
Forgot about this thread for a bit Mick! This lockdown has meant I've been getting around to finishing the kids/wife cave in the garden so they stay out of the garage :2funny:
Insulation is now in and a dozen sheets of ply arrive tomorrow to get the inside finished for them to use over summer :daumenhoch:
[attachment=1]
-
Ah, insulation! I'd forgotten about that stuff. Ventilation is king over here, certainly with older Japanese houses, which explains why I'm sat here in front of a kerosene stove, wearing multiple layers of clothing plus a hat and gloves! & that's in the kitchen! :D
-
Nice cave/garage. Looks bigger than the row of houses I live in 😂
-
Nice cave/garage. Looks bigger than the row of houses I live in 😂
It will be when it's finished Danny, but I'm out of cash right now so we're living in the bit behind the garage and above it, so about 90m2 of space. Fine for a family of four for a bit, but couped up during lockdown it's a bit small :shocked:
