Title: ***The rotor museum***
Post by: oldschoolace on October 14, 2015, 11:30 PM
I figured it was time I sorted through my stack of boxes that were starting to clutter the office. Big shout out to those of you who give me the odd heads up or in a few cases, helped get bits shipped over here  :4_17_5:

For me the rotor is synonymus with freestyle and as a big freestyle fan it seemed a logical and relatively affordable item to collect.
It's by no means complete and a few I own are currently sat on bikes but I reckon I am around 6-8 away from a pretty much comprehensive collection. An RGD would be one of those

from the top left: (doubles have been left out)

White "daisy" rotor.    These came stock on a few lower end completes like columbias but also some Kuwaharas apparently
Skyway Spinmaster II.    A nice bit of kit and difficult to find in nos condition these days
Skyway spinmaster I.   Easier to find nos than its later incarnation
Fishbone UFO.  A clean looking, late, prodominantly mid school system which ultimately was overshadowed by the Gyro
Kit Apex.   A little known rotor that seems well made. Also available badged up as a Norco
Acs Pro.   A nice refinement of the standard Acs rotor. Runs smooth but requires a little maintenance to get the best out of it
Skika. This design is found stickered under a few names. Simple but effective.
Tioga max flo.   Part of their max flo range, these rotors came in a variety of colours to match the other parts in the range
A1.   I dont know a great deal about these but i suspect they may be a later model of an A1 rotor which has a checkerboard decal
TT racing jam buttie.   A mod i came up with a while back which converts a standard Jam buttie anti tweek into a rotor
Columbia.  This shares the same design as a Skika and one or two other brands like Legal Action
Rump Rider.    This novel idea is basically a spring to assist your rotor returning back to a non braking position
Polygon.   An interesting mushroom shape these were found stock on some Schwinn freestylers
Tange spin ex.   A lovely compact rotor which is much smaller than its counterparts
Aquilla.   An early model which i have seen stickered up as other brands
Aquilla MkII.  A much more robust follow up to its predecessor, spins well
Tange Spin Z.   One of my favourites. It has a drilled lower plate to reduce weight
Speedwell Spinner.   Another favourite. Beautifully hand made and british these have a built in flex fighter as well as individual clamp on upper and lower cable guides
Hurricane.   An odd little thing i sourced in France. Made completely from plastic they are found in black or white and spin on ball bearings. Found on some MBK's
Axiom.   Another ball bearing rotor. A very simple design that works really well.

I thought about other plastics and even wood but I think clear acrylic would show off the rotors best. Might work something out of heat bent 3mm rather than solid blocks  :daumenhoch:

A lovely new addition to the museum arrived today. A rare Aquila fob watch rotor

It has a double layer of bearings so the upper, lower and central shaft sections all spin independantly of each other  :daumenhoch:

Another great thread Clint!  :daumenhoch: Always wanted some more insight into rotors. I wasn't aware of all the different manufacturers.
I have a Gyro which I really like a lot, but don't know what generation. It could be an 85 I guess. I don't want to spoil your thread with my pictures, but if you could have a look... maybe you know? http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,186879.msg1877060.html#msg1877060
