Title: 1983 Torker 280x - DONE - FINISHED PICS ON PAGE 3
Post by: Retrodan72 on February 13, 2016, 11:48 AM
With the Piranha SOLD, and happy with its new owner, I purchased my next build.

It will probably be the only build I do this year, so the plan is to spread it out over the months, and have it ready for MK.

I'm not going to reveal what the frame set is, just yet, it will be arriving early next week, but the parts already collected for it are:

Black/yellow repop Unitrons
Black Nikyo headset
Black Shimano SX pedals
Black twin DC seat clamp
Black Kashi Aero
Straight chrome seat post
Comp III tyres

Parts hoping to go on it:

Hsin Lung Pro bars
Sugino crank
Sugino chainring
Some type of power disc - not sure of type yet?
Black Skyway Tuffs (alloy hub)
Tange BB
Black Tange headlock
Black Tech 3
Black MX1000

"Can you tell what it is yet"? (In a noncey Aussie accent)

I'm looking forward to this one.

Pleased you're going for Tuffs. I've got a red pair for my next build.

I'll go for a guess.... Torker?  :chin:

Haha, good guess Mart. I was going to add a few teaser shots, but forgot I'd had a wanted ad up for one last month.  :crazy2:

Ha! I didn't see the ad, just pictured a black and yellow build and took a punt.

Look forward to seeing it come together.

Black and Yellow parts.   8)

Three guesses for me Haro (late 80s Black/Yellow two tone F&F) , Mongoose or maybe Kuwahara.  :-\  :daumenhoch:

Dan , is that the only area of chrome peeling ??  Are you going for new decals ??

If it is the only area of peel and you are thinking of going for new decals , why don't you get Del to make the chrome backing of the decal a bit longer and you could then cover the 'peel area' with the chrome decal .  :-\

I personally wouldn't re chrome it , you would be better selling this and holding out for one in mint condition imo if you want chrome .

Well lads, the results of the poll have decided that this stays as a survivor, which saves me a fair bit of cash, but has now done SBD out of a few quid.   :10_2_12:

But I'm sure Dan won't hold it against me, with ride season just around the corner.

Cheers lads, some great comments.

It will be a couple of weeks before I can get to grips with this again, I've got some family stuff going on that will take over, and a 100 mile charity ride to concentrate on, oh and the BMX pot is empty, I'm planning to have this done for MK though, so no rush.

I, until a few days ago, wasn't too sure where to go with this. I didn't want all chrome/black - got a few builds like that, and didn't want to go chrome/gold/yellow - would be like my Patty, so I'm going mainly with black parts, with a couple of gold details.

So I couldn't wait for Carl's ride to get on this, so got a lever, calliper, chain and cable, also a new set of decals off Del. Del lengthened the frame tube decal, to hide the nastiest of Chrome peel, but it's 33 years old and did what I could with it.

I did salvage the original dealer sticker, that had been stuck on very squwiff, it peeled off in one, so used some spray adhesive, and reapplied it.

I'm going to get a pad set for it eventually, but for now, it's done.
