Title: 92' Robinson Amtrac
Post by: CustardLips on November 25, 2016, 12:22 AM
Been collecting parts for this since picking it up off Carl in2bmx last year. Pretty much got everything together for it  now so thought I'd start a build thread.   :daumenhoch:  Amtrac frame without the correct forks unfortunately but has a set of GT Pro Series forks which I'm more than happy with (prefer em tbh). A few members off here have had a dabble with this over the years and it's been mostly dressed up in os parts so thought I'd give it a bit of mid school justice.

(http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q565/CustardLips/BMX/20160717_163413_zpsxtwfqsu3.jpg) (http://s1164.photobucket.com/user/CustardLips/media/BMX/20160717_163413_zpsxtwfqsu3.jpg.html)

Its not original paint (think they only came in chrome) so gonna strip it and get it powdered. Carl's has some og decal sets for these too so they shouldn't be a problem. I've got the correct bars and vitually all the right GT stuff for it's age. Just waiting for some synstrip to come in the post so i can get cracking.  :)

Don't think there's many options when it comes to Robbo's tbh Lee. It's been red and got too many blue based bikes so I'm gonna go with white... see how that pans out.  :D

The easiest way to find spindles is to get hold of some beat up triple trap pedals. They normally quite cheap and work without any mods.

Is that a deffo Jon ? Been weighing em up and the bodies are very similar in size to old school MKS/KKT type bodies so was thinking of getting a beat up pair of them tbh but if triple traps fit I'll keep me eye open for a set of them. ???

The GT's were made by SR so you need to look for SR speed trap, Odyssey Tripple trap, or any other SR made cage style pedal. Speed traps are expensive so triple traps are your best bet.

Id love to judge at MK, but I always think its sketchy to judge if you have bikes in the show so I steer clear. If I don't have any new bikes next year I will definitely be up for it.

Got a few changes in the pipeline for this...

Found a set of Robinson forks in chrome... bit later than the frame but more a match than the GT, correct Robinson stamped seat post, GT Superlace hubs that were in a bad way so had em stripped and polished, found another pair of nos AA Pro's so now running a fat/thin combo and a nos pitbull caliper... think it looked naked at the rear end with the Nippon. So nothing drastic just a few tweaks.  :)

Picked the hubs up today so just need to rebuild the wheels... throw it all together... take some fresh pics... sorted.  :daumenhoch:

These hubs look fantastic.  :4_17_5:
Was that "only" dirt and old grease on that rear-hub, or was the chrome actually peeling off?

Bubbling, peeling and completely peeled off in places Andy... did look worse than they actually were tbh. Very pleased with the outcome for sure.  :daumenhoch:

I always thought that once the chrome is peeling, re-chroming would be the only way to save it in most cases. But that obviously depends on the metal underneath the chrome finish.
A while ago I tried to polish a dull spot on a side wall of my 7x's that had a tiny of peeling too, but it didn't work that well.
