Title: Removing powder coat without damaging details on brake bridge
Post by: fatalan on June 28, 2017, 06:11 PM
Hi All,

I have an old hutch that i had powder coated a while ago and its just too thick.  The Hutch detailing on the rear brake bridge is hardly visible.  Because the bike was chrome there are some marks under the powder coat where the prep should have been done better.

Since having it done there seems to be more flaws appearing and to be honest its killing my build mojo.  I just seem to have lost interest in it.

Anyway - my questions - if i blast the powder coat will I lose the bridge detail?  As a non serial bike id rather keep the HUTCH lettering if possible.

Cheers,

Alan

Use 'Synstrip' and watch the paint fall off, no need to get the frame blasted.

Sounds like a job for the weekend.  Thanks for that.  I keep meaning to get this bike built but its just not happening!

Use Synstrip outside though, the stuff is lethal. Plenty of PPE as well, it burns like fook......

Sounds scary!  It wont be happening this weekend.  Going to have to wait for delivery.

Gasket removal spray will strip powdercoat in seconds...about 4 quid a can.

Thanks all.  I'm not really wanting to remove it but there are some minor imperfections underneath the coat and due to its thickness the HUTCH is not very visible on the brake bridge.  I think im using minor imperfections as a procrastination tool.  I have ordered the stripper but did not know about the gasket cleaner so I really appreciate that input.
