Post by: steve on January 12, 2018, 12:02 AM
So, typically on that ebay as I'm selling stuff, as you do you have a looksee , just happened to type in pk ripper and this frame popped up, It had only been on a few minutes..........
[attachment=1]
Ooh I thought I wonder if that's one of those long ones, I know its USA made, I will ask for the top tube length-
sure enough 21'' on centres head tube and seat tube - has to be a

1997 ish PK - R - XL , that's nice I though.
[attachment=2]
rear drops look pretty good too, so I bought it for £160 posted.......
Then Poo!!
where am I going to get some landing gear forks, looking at the pk on bmx museum, I ascertained if USA made ones they should have only TWO holes in the drop out IF they are late 90's
quick look on ebay and there was a new set!!! £49.99 delivered
[attachment=3]
so I snagged them, especially with free delivery
[attachment=4]
people must think they are snide as they only have two holes
[attachment=5]
but they look lush.
so that happened within two minutes of buying the frame just now, so hey ho - ONWARDS
p.s. don't have a clue on mid-school stuff :LolLolLolLol:

ooh, nice.
I suppose I have to ask...........
can I run profile mini hubs not sure, bit early?
chris king headset not sure, bit early?
aluminium crupi pro bars not sure, bit early?
dxr brakes and lever defo nope
which 36 hole  rims = anything chrome super 7x style? super 7x, definitely, lots of obscure, less well known rims used in "mid school" like Mavic & less well known Araya  rims.

I'm not sure on the timelines of Profile hubs & Chris King etc, they may have been available, something for you to research? :daumenhoch:

Snafu Kashiwa aero rims it is then - 1.75 double wall aero's
I am sure I have seen these on this website before..........
[attachment=1]
I think they are painted and not annodised, so they will be stripped and polished

not using these now
still at £357

seat post came and its not only a tad too short but too loose too
damn

toying with the idea of c record cranks............
too much hassle with bottom bracket, I think i'll just run profiles, simple

I think I want an oddesseyy junior seat post - micro adjust

 Are the Kashiwa rims not designed for brakeless use?
Title: Re: PK-R-XL
Post by: steve on February 06, 2018, 01:07 PM
yes, I spoze they are - they look real cool though but actually work better on my loop tail as they look like araya 7w,
plus are baby blue so match the og frame stickers
its now getting mini profile hubs as I think they existed circa 1999/2000
I think I will simply get some chrome mid school rims - don't know what yet though

still £357

Title: Re: PK-R-XL
Post by: steve on February 06, 2018, 01:15 PM
ok, so the campy c record hubs are nice and all but don't really suit this plus they are from late eighties anyways, so kyboshing them in favor of profile mini's so
profile mini hub shell used
not using the gold one now
still £357

[attachment=1]
16t driver with casstette style lock ring and separate cog
£84.99 delivered - I hope it a ti version..........
£442

now to find a mini female rear axle
4 pawls and springs
the £2 thin spacer washer
some bearings for the other side
the spacers
the 3/8 bolts and volcano doofers - although I think I am going to need 3/8 to 14mm top hats and file them to 1/2 inch to fit the drops

oh plus of course find a gold front hub complete

Title: Re: PK-R-XL

[attachment=1]
I have smashed in the headset and bottom undercracker
had some profiles and a 42 toof imperial
the renthal style bars are I think mid school and not renthal

so I am going to need a 22.2mm 7/8 seat post in chrome or aluminium micro adjust
mini front hub
mini rear hub parts
36 hole rims in chrome
spokes in stainless
what tyres?

ooh, I do need to chop down the fork steerier too

need to pull it all apart and de anno the frame and polish it
then need to find og drip decals with the xl bit on them

Title: Re: PK-R-XL

Not sure on those blue aero rims myself
Title: Re: PK-R-XL
Post by: VOIVOD on February 06, 2018, 08:46 PM
 You don`t need 14mm bolts or to do any filing-just get 3/8 bolts.
Title: Re: PK-R-XL
Post by: steve on February 07, 2018, 12:33 AM
aha!!
I think the drop out slots are 1/2 inch on pk's
the plan is to get the profile top hat washers that convert 3/8 - 10mm to 9/16 - 14mm
file a flat off .5mm top and bottom from them - so they fit the 1/2'' drops and wont spin
run a stainless buttomn head or the vocalno doofers

I did look up the primo hubs and springs - good shout as they sell the profile ones for 10 bucks each!!
didn't know the axles are available from alans for 30 pounds in steel
will get one when the other bits arrive
I think the driver already has the bearings in?
do I need two for the non drive side in the hub?
one thin wavy washer sits at the hub cassette side
then the two spacers
anyone got a profile mini rear wheel want to simply measure the rear spokes each side to inner rim for me
I like to get the spoke length stupidly accurate i.e. spoke just in line with slot in nip - bit anal I know, but I have never laced an unequal hub flange before

I bought a pair of these
I don't know if they are early enough though
I liked them coz they are light blue
NOT USING THEM NOW
STILL AT £442

someone sell me a 22.2mm chrome seat post with the ring welded on the top
no one have mini rear female axle bearings spacers bolts washer?
front humini hub any colour, think I am going to do them brown for some strange reason

want 4 3/8 domed bolts
14-3/8mm profle rear washers - axle convertors

Title: Re: PK-R-XL

bought a left hand drive complete rear hub, just so I could use the axle and pawls from it and the
cones and bolts
£70
 :LolLolLolLol:
SOLD THE HUB SHELL AND DRIVER FOR £70 -FREE AXLE BEARINGS AND BOLTS AND END CONE SPACERS AND THIN WASHER AND PAWL SET -YIPPEE
STILL AT £442

also now using new school renthals that come on a cruiser I just bought

also figured out that a boing boing seat post has a 7/8ths 22.2mm micro adjust head squeezed on, so bought one of those and a length of aluminium tube
£10

£452

I think I have the wrong pawls for the driver though, can anyone assure me that all mini hub drivers use the same pawl springs
seems a bit stiff

Looks good so far,
I'd say no to the DXR brake though, DX is era correct

Tim Henchliffe on Facebook has some silver T1000 rims for £100 which would be perfect for this

total for wheels
£125 - not too bad
this isn't adding in the new ti driver and cog and the fancy bolts
