Post by: Quadog on March 16, 2018, 09:11 AM
Hi All,

Would like to have these calipers stripped and polished but unsure how to go about removing the quick release mechanism also once removed can they be re attached

Cheers Scott 👍

You will have to grind of the head of the rivet to release the QR.
There are rebuild kits available from Porkchop or BMXworks (maybe other places too). I guess you could source a rivet elsewhere but the one in the kits is shouldered which make it easier.
The new rivet is formed using what is called a 'rivet snap' (3/8 should do it), simply a punch with a concave end, they are very cheap. It is not difficult at all, you can do it with a hammer like in metal work class. Probably best to use a press for more control.

Seen a few posts on this subject and people have done it, seems easier than I thought it would be too. I got blank rivets (alloy though) for tech3 levers off ebay, you may find something on there that's suitable.

Good luck  :daumenhoch:

Why do you need to remove them? can't you strip with nitromoors and then polish? Did that with a pink set, 9yrs ago and they turned out fine.

Yep it’s paint. No need to take them off
