Title: Decent 1/2" pedals
Post by: haydnw on March 19, 2018, 08:16 PM
Hi. Can anyone suggest where I can get a decent pair of pedals with a 1/2" thread please? I'm looking for something with good length metal pins, rather than polycarbonate. I'm struggling to find any proper contenders, but this is my first BMX so I may just not be looking in the right places yet! Cheers.

Is it old school?
Is it new school?
Is it freestyle?
Is it race?

These are all very valid questions ;)

I would also add

Do you like tearing the flesh out of your shins?
Is it mid school?

do you intend riding in flipflops...?

how long would you like the zipper pattern in your shin to be...?

Wow, thanks all! Erm...

1) New school
2) The plan is to use it at the local skatepark
3) I would err on the side of ripping flesh out of my shins if it means genuinely better grip, yes.
4) Orange
5) Red Leicester? Orange, dependable, but nothing flashy.
6) Vans, but if you guys recommend flip flops I'll give it a go.

 :) Cheers!

Now we're getting somewhere :teef:

the shin flesh question was to find out if you would go for evil beartraps or platforms (if shopping for an old school build)

new school / skatepark use means you'll want platform pedals anyway

1/2" means you're running a one piece crank at the moment and also that you may want to upgrade to a stronger 3 piece after you've bent it in the skatepark so maybe not worth spending much on them. It also means you might struggle to find some the right size as most new school setups use 9/16"

Thanks! Sounds like my determination that this would be a nice cheap project is going out of the window already.  ;D

It turns out eBay was a treasure trove of 1/2" pedals (well, relatively speaking). I picked up some Wellgo platform ones which I know won't set the world on fire but have some gnarly metals pins which is what I wanted. Here's the (£75, not really properly abused yet) steed in all her glory...
