………….yes I know!
Having built a couple of D-Tours only to sell them to friends in a matter of weeks of finishing them I thought I might have another go, especially when the frame fell in my lap. But then another search for forks began, and thankfully a rather helpful German pm'd me on Facebook in reply to my wanted ad. So having paid twice as much for the forks than I paid for the frame we are once again off and running!

As always it's not straight forward :LolLolLolLol:
My desire is to emulate the 1986 Dyno Compe II catalogue bike, as you can see it's a standard D-30 frameset lavished with GT parts, some of which I already have. But the big blocker to this dream is the tyres! Where will I find NOS white Shinkos? and the wheels to some extent.
[attachment=2]
But then along came the next page of the catalogue which has the Dyno Compe I, again the same D-30 frame set, available in the same colours, but festooned with more modest parts.

And not a set of pretzels or a snake post in sight!
So potentially it looks like the main bulk of the Compe II but with spokes and black Shinkos, which I do have.
Anyway the frame is away with SBD and I have plumped for the pink rather than the green, and as both colours came in both models it really doesn't matter. This one might take a while.

Actually, how weird is that?
I thought that picture looked familiar!

Hi Nick,
nice one, great to see this as the Dynos are often overlooked in the UK scene...
I have this survivor 85 Compe, but do not have the time just yet to build up. Often toyed with changing it to the 86 orange colour, but as an og finish its pretty good and it wouldn't be era correct...

I once read that the top tube on the Compes is actually the down tube on GT Performers....I'm not sure if true, but I could believe it considering the Dyno/Gt tie in...
This is a great thread for info: https://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=538921
I've been lucky enough to meet Bob Morales a few times...one of the nicer guys in the scene bitd!

No the bend in the top tube was added to make it unique. The prototype didn’t have it originally. Nice bike but sell me those wheels!!!!! :LolLolLolLol:
-
"no"? not talking about the prototype, talking what you have which is a production build.
Yeap, the top tube was a GT Performer downtube welded in the other way. Same factory, less machining.....but yes, BM did say it was added in as a unique design feature....

Well there you go :LolLolLolLol:

OK so finding mint white Shinkos is proving quite difficult...………….. who knew!
I have located some used ones and will look at using them but I think I might have just found a viable alternative....

I finished it on 3rd August can it go in July?
Given how late I started the thread thought I’d better give it a couple more days :teef:
I’m sure we’ll have enough mk builds for a good August turnout ;)
