Title: 1982 Falcon Pro Beta II - Cruiser Build
Post by: gaf16 on November 17, 2018, 09:10 PM
After finally admitting that I'd look like a complete tw*t riding one of my 20" old school bmx builds around the local track with my kids at the age of 46, I decided to build a 24" cruiser.
Although I will still undoubtedly be considered an embarrassing Dad by my 8 year old twins, I'm planning to take this out for a spin around the track.
Frame and bent forks sourced from Ebay for £80 in original chrome which was way beyond saving.
I took inspiration from the 20" Beta in candy apple red and set sail.
It will not be to everyones taste but, I really like the way it has turned out.
Although I do think it may have been better if I'd toned down the colour scheme a little ::)
Forks straightened on the jig at my mate's car repair bodyshop.
Powdered in candy apple red.

Rims - 1982 NOS Araya copies
Bars - 1982 Falcon cruiser bars original to frame
Hubs - NOS Malliard in gold
Tyres - Yellow gum walls from Pork Chop
Crank - SR one piece original to the frame
Spider - NOS Landar
Chainring - Suntour
Chain - Izumi
Pedals - KKT repop
Seatpost clamp - NOS Landar
Seatpost - Unknown fluted layback repop
Seat - NOS MX San Marco
Headset lock nut - NOS Landar
Headset - NOS Tioga
Stem - NOS profile
Brake caliper - 1982 Weinmann
Brake lever - NOS Landar
Grips - NOS AME Cam

I have a quality set of custom decals from Del which need to be applied in order to complete the build.

Will update pic's when complete.

Funny thing perspective, when I put the decals on the bike at lunchtime I thought it looked great.
Seeing the pic's now, the seat post ruins the balance of the build.
It needs to be replaced with a period correct layback in candy apple red to get the balance back.
I'm already on the lookout ;)

The balance of colours looks right enough mate... just take the Del and the ODI sticker off... seen as it's not even got mushies on it.  :LolLolLolLol:
