Title: West Lancashire Newbie - But 46 years old
Post by: madchester16 on December 28, 2018, 10:50 AM
Hi Everyone,

Just signed up as picked myself up a 94 Mongoose this week... think I was just on eBay and old school BMX's caught my eye and brought back many happy memories from the early 80's :-) I had a few BMX's in 82, 83, 84 before a moped came along when I was 16.

So after browsing eBay and AlansBMX.co.uk etc for a few days, decided on my budget and narrowed it down to a few bikes. The Burners all looked great but I always liked Mongoose after a friend had a Supergoose 3 back in the day. My Diamond Back Viper was nice though :-)

Took the Goose out for a spin yesterday and loved it. I ride MTB on trails still so not too bad with confidence but the handling of the BMX is much sharper... although the brakes are not!!! Might be after some help maybe with those.

So yeah I think I have 94 serial number Mongoose Expert... not sure if it might even be a Comp or Pro or the base model. But I love it and plan to swap those white walls tyres for Tioga 3 gum walls this weekend :-)

Speak soon,
Lee

Nice looking Goose.

Most of us on here are heading towards 50.

Great to know another BMX fan only 5 minutes away!

I've  swapped the tyres and seat on my Goose to Tioga 3s and a Kashimax RS which I think improves the looks. Not sure whether to go for period correct decals next or the early 80s California decals (with stars on forks) which I love the looks of more than period correct.

It has one "4130 cro mo" decal on the seat post which might be original 1994. Any advice on decals welcome  ;)

Definitely be up for a few rides. Is there a section on the forum that lists them or do they just pop up when someone suggests them?

Welcome to RAD  :)

I’m in St Helens. We have an amazing group of radsters in the north west. Through this forum and the rides, i’ve met some amazing people, many of which i hope to class as friends for many years to come. Keep it  :radbmxsmilie:  fistblump

;D I can see the start of a slippery slope to spending too much money! But I'm really enjoying changing my bikes components and looking forward to a group ride. Found the section and the July Liverpool ride. Also found riding around the local university (Edge Hill)  grounds over Christmas was great fun. Lots of steps, small walls etc to injury myself on!  ;D And now i also found Rampworks in Aintree but too scared to try it.

Anyone else on here tried the indoor skate parks?

Some of us still ride, sadly injuries slow us down but there's still a hard-core out there in their late 40's and early 50's riding fairly regular.....

I broke my arm the first time i went to rampworks, but that was on a skateboard  :LolLolLolLol: - that was pre old school BMX/  :radbmxsmilie: for me. Since then i’ve been to a few of the indoor RAD ramp nights without any incidents  :daumenhoch:

I've honestly never ridden ramps in my life... although we did build kick turn ramps about 6ft high when I was a kid. Although I ride MTB trails (Llandegla, Marin etc) now and quite happy to jump on my MTB, I know its not the same thing. But I would really love to get into riding these skate parks... or am I a bit insane to think I can do it?

I've attached a couple of updated picks of my Goose anyway... before I break it doing something stupid! ;D New tyres, seat and mushrooms grips in one pick.
