Right.. I have a Hoffman Bama 25yr anniversary bike. 25/ 9 gears I think.
At the moment to get the chain tight the rear axle is right at the back of the dropouts. I want the rear slammmed so how do I work out what chain - 1/2 link or standard (which is what is on it) will fit correctly?
-
:) You can buy a single half-link that will fit onto your existing chain.

KMC Missing link will do it , it works like a half link, size wise, just clips together with pliers , , or when you put pressure on the canks :daumenhoch:
used a few of these on standard chains, seem ok, don't break like the old split link , still prefere to remake the chain without a removeable link , but if you need to then these are about the best option
dont forget you need a little slack in the chain to get it off the chain wheel, to get the wheel in and out

Well I’ve just measured the back end and it’s 13.75 which is about ideal but it can go down to 13.5 so I fancy trying that.

:) The missing link is fine but won`t shorten the chain as it is still technically an outer link whereeas a half-link will do. .https://www.tritoncycles.co.uk/components-c9/chains-c64/half-link-1-2-x-1-8-link-p13736

I whipped the half link chain off my colony and put it on the Hoffman. With a few links out its just about slammed and the difference in doing manuals is really noticeable even though the rear axle has moved only about 8 mm.

You’ve probably worked this out yourself, but just for reference a full link shortens/lengthens a chain approximately 1/2” and a half link shortens/lenghtens approximately 1/4” :daumenhoch:
