Title: Tokyo Olympics BMX
Post by: Mikku on May 28, 2019, 01:40 PM
Next year sees not only BMX racing but also BMX freestyle coming to Japan for the Tokyo Olympics and hopefully I’ll be there!! As a resident of Japan I got the chance to pre-register and apply for tickets (from the official website) ahead of everybody else. The deadline for applications is tonight and I got mine in this morning, as confirmed below. I’ve covered my bases by applying for three days of BMX action:- racing on Thurs 30th and Fri 31st July, and freestyle on Sat 1st August. Tickets are going to be oversubscribed so will be allocated by lottery. I will find out if I actually get tickets on June 20th - watch this space!! :daumenhoch:

Assuming I get any tickets! :D

That said, there are further chances to get some I think in the Autumn, then again next year, so hopefully I can pick some up somewhere! :daumenhoch:

It was announced yesterday that additional tickets would be made available for those applicants who, like me, failed to win any in the first lottery draw. My hopes raised, I just checked out the official website to find that BMX is NOT one of the sports this applies to! :tickedoff: :2gunsfiring_v1:

Bloody swizz! they'll be keeping thousands bank for Hospitality for free! and half of those people wont be interested in the games they'll just go for free food and drink! and you'd be surprised how many people wont even go!  :knuppel2: this is true of any of the big rugby and football games in Wales and England! I bought to tickets for the Rugby at the millenium stadium which cost £800 a pair as a treat for a family member then found out my mate who'd worked there to fix a problem on their  flooring which took less than an hour to fix and has never been there since! was then sent 4 tickets for the same game, food drink etc included for bloody free!  :tickedoff:

That sucks! Thumbs down

Apparently I've another chance next year but as the games draw nearer, the more interest they're generating and therefore less chance I have of being lucky. in the first round of the lottery 14 times more people applied than there were tickets but this time it was 23! >:(

Plus the problem with the BMX racing is that there's only 2 days of action and the venue isn't that big, so demand is comparatively high even though it's not such a popular sport here.

So, two years down the line, the Olympics BMX racing is finally happening this week! :daumenhoch:

I won't be there due to the COVID-restrictions but thankfully also because I'm working - I'd have been really gutted if I'd had to give up a ticket because of work! :2gunsfiring_v1:

Anyway, the racing's this Thursday and Friday and the freestyle on Saturday and Sunday. I'm more interested in the former, so below is a list of riders plus the bikes of the two Brits, Kye Whyte and Beth Shriever. Bring it on! :Great_Britain:

Some of the bikes are dope.

I nearly bought a white Prophecy Scud (carbon) a few months ago. Messaged the seller and made an offer, which was when he said he was selling it for a friend which put me off. Shame, as it was really nice.

Yeah, am loving the Olympic bikes. Below are a couple more from Brazil and the Netherlands, the latter being Van Gendt's 2-geared, carbon Meybo! :coolsmiley:

Btw, what are you doing flirting with new school race frames again?!? ;D

Super-stoked to see Kye Whyte and Beth Shriever survive the carnage and grab those medals. I was working at the time but by compete chance, found some live coverage on the cafeteria tv! I was therefore jumping up and down and screaming like a madman, especially during the women's final, much to the amusement and/or bemusement of the hundred plus Japanese university students who were up until that time having a relaxing lunchtime!  :Great_Britain:  :daumenhoch:
