Title: Documentary 1980’s BMX track project in South Shields, Tyne and Wear
Post by: DaytonaChris on February 20, 2020, 09:33 PM
A youth based project by Tyneside Outdoors which was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund has come to an end just recently.

This project focused on the old 1980’s BMX dirt track in Temple Park, South Shields, Tyne and Wear.

The track had become badly overgrown due to lack of maintainance, the track bed got reduced to about 1metre from about 4-5metres in places!

The project was to cut the overgrowth back and get the track to it’s original width, which would give people a better place to ride around than in it’s unmaintained state.
The local council gave permission to do the cutting back of the overgrowth but then withdrew that permission after about a year with no reason given! After afew meetings and no real outcome from them and lack of replies when we had recontacted them about the matter.

So the project did go on even though we stopped the cutting back.

This is a link to the documentary about the project.

It may be 2hours but it shows and explains alot of the going ons over the project’s timeline.
This is a place near Geordieland so I hope you can understand some of the accents! Haha
