Title: Another frame pulled out of the eaves..... next build = Team Rampar
Post by: bobafett on September 27, 2020, 05:21 PM

Well a few of you may remember this frame as it used to belong to Glynn - he first presented it at MK back in 2011 with yellow and gold parts and a lovely build it was  :smitten:

Every time I got with Glynn or we spoke via message etc. I'd always joke "So... when are you selling me that Rampar" and in 2018 he finally replied with "D'ya know I've been thinking about selling it recently" and the deal was done.

I distributed some of the parts to other builds and others to the parts drawers and just kept the frame forks and bars.

I'd never, in the past, been one for matching parts to decal but this one just screamed at me to do just that as the decals are black and silver so to let the red candy pop on it's own I've decided all other parts should be black or silver or a mix of both.

I swapped the headset out for an early unstamped MX type and started assembling my components for the build last night.........

Got a nice NOS Shimano tourney brake set-up and to keep the black/silver theme, paired them up with........

A NOS old school Schwinn brake cable...

Pretty cool these cables - come with both cable end types and you just cutt off the end you don't need  :)

ODI / Winner's circle grips again for this build.....

This time it's the more traditional overlapping rings pattern.

You can see them compared to the "octopus" ones I put on the Team Jag......

Might be a bit out on era for a 1979 but I'm going 7x rims - they came out in 1980 so not a mile out...........

And they're a lovely set.... with NOS chrome suzue hubs  8)

Carlisle agressor thin/thin combo Iv'e decided for rubber.........

Got this cheeky little number as a seat clamp....

Again a bit out on era (1981 I reckon) but it suits the build in my eyes........

And got these sexy little bastards to go on her...........

NOS loveliness  :smitten:

Done a few bits on assembly today so might post a bit more later / tomorrow.

Hopefully get her done over the next couple of days and grab a moment of sun between the clouds for some picces.............

Yeah, that's a lovely colour. Must admit to not remembering or knowing much about the Rampars. Raleigh = Burner in my books, so it's nice to see the earlier stuff. :daumenhoch:

Tyres fitted to the rims - I'm liking the skinny all black pair against 7x - it shouldn't look right but it does  >:D

These NOS Suzue chrome plated hubs are so shiney it's hard to take pictures of them - the reflected spokes look like cracks in the chrome  :LolLolLolLol:

Stem choice made.....

Gone for the earlier all-alloy short-reach Suntour that was available from late 70's onward.......

Coming together nicely  :)

Yeah this is the Team Rampar - built by BMX products AKA mongoose...... i.e. that's why I'm interested lol  :LolLolLolLol:

It's basically a 1979 goose but in place of the gusset with large circular hole you have a flat gusset with a brake cable slot and 2 top tube cable guides welded on the frame..........

......... other than that it's pretty much the same as a late 70's goose / Jag hybrid...........

Rare little beast though  :)

The Ramper Team riders rode these mongoose / BMX Producs Inc. Team models, but the actual Rampar models available in the shops were.... well.... "not quite as good" shall we say, and not made by mongoose / BMX products Inc.

Wow, another beauty on the production line John, interesting choice of parts and a good history lesson too along the way, that's what I love about your build threads.

Never seen one of those Suntour stems before.
