I bought a complete Motobecane MX113 on the 8th October last year, nearly a year to the day she was finally finished this morning. She was nice enough with some black 80's simplex mags and 80's yellow Vredestein tyres, 80's pro size bars, new yellow Mx seat, repop dc rear brake set up and seat clamp in gold, yellow Oury grips, 80's Suntour XC II pedals and a generic 80's OPC and chainring. I thought some improvements could be made using decent used 80's, nos and new parts. I only had to clean up a few parts that I bought for her. A cruddy Tange BB220 and Sugino Chainring bolts had a vinegar bath which cleaned them up nicely. The wheels were stripped down, de greased, 00 wire wool clean up on the rims, hubs and spokes. Then a soapy wash on the rims and hubs followed by fresh grease. Everything else was just wiped over and fitted, just the same for the frame and forks before building began. Originally I was going to build her with red components but after I fitted a few I wasn't feeling it. I believe out of the factory these were only all blue components but I went with gold and black hopefully complimenting the colors in the decals. . There's nothing you haven't seen before about this bike but I'm glad I took my time and waited for parts to pop up, I think she turned out ok.

you know what I think of this, proper early/mid 80's old school, pre all that freestyle stuff of a year or two later. Probably my favourite of your recent builds. Just goes to prove, it doesn't always need to be uber high-end etc. etc. to evoke the fond memories that we all started out with as kids. in fact, it's exactly these kinds of builds that do do that. :smitten:

Thanks Pete, what a great comment to recieve. Glad you like her. I agree too, although we all love to drool over the very special builds we are lucky enough to see right here on RAD, for many an entry to mid level bike with a few upgrades over time is most likely what we had bitd. Those were the days.

Thanks for your comment Mick, she's not showroom or high end but imo an honest rider build that has something about her 😂
