tbh the second from last pics looks really good,
last pic, top right looks the best, it's such a hard colour, more blue/black than black/blue
and the hardest part is even colour, that's the trick :)
-
this is it all done ......massive thanks to kevin rettie for the lend of his frame he brought it down on the train from scotland to newcastle . his frame is in good shape . the paint is chipped and a tiny bit faded at the head tube . but the rest of the paint is perfect to match .....4 whole weeks of hair pulling and i think this is excelent paint match

surely that is gonna scratch off even when laquered (or not) no problem at all with the slightest knock, if your 100% happy with the colour why dont you get it clear vinyl wrapped after to preserve your hard work??
-
clear vinyl wrapped ;D ;D ;D ;D are you kidding me the joints would look mental
-
surely that is gonna scratch off even when laquered (or not) no problem at all with the slightest knock,
But isn't that how the Original Turbos were anyway? ;D We sold a few of those at our shop BITD and i always remember even brand new out of the box, when building them up for a customer they already had the odd chip or scratch here and there...
Great work on the Colour match Neil - its like the quest for the Holy Grail :daumenhoch:
-
clear vinyl wrapped ;D ;D ;D ;D are you kidding me the joints would look mental
yeah good point forgot about the seam, saying that its gonna mark really easy when your building it up so whats your plan, if youve gone to the trouble of 99% matching the colour for it to only scratch or peel off , not knocking the effort but whats the point ?
-
Just has to be careful.. rubber washers n all that..
Will look spot on when finished :daumenhoch:
-
ermmmmmmmmmmmm the point is no one has been able to do it apart from me . 1st good point . i have aa very nice harry leary that needs painting why do it blue or black or purple when i can do it the right colour 2nd good point . the laquer i am useing in uv resistant so it wont faid unlike the factory laquer which does fade and also its quite hard wearing so i am going to force dry it and just maybe it will with satnd knocks and bumps 3rd good point
-
scary what you think of the colour match ........... kevin rettie seen it live today and he was gobsmacked
-
Youve done a top job there mate, fair paly :daumenhoch:
a good quality laquer ove the top will help no end
Cant wait to see the end product now :4_17_5:
-
Neil, what you've done there is awesome and the visual match looks astonishing. :daumenhoch:
I've seen some top examples of restorations such as Scary Leary's, PKradman's and Gremlin's, which for me are probably the best examples worldwide.
:4_17_5:

scary what you think of the colour match ........... kevin rettie seen it live today and he was gobsmacked
Yeah it looks spot on, like to see some pics of the frame :daumenhoch:
This is probably the best match ever.
The turbo colour has been a ball-ache for years, but respect must goto pkradman
who was doing beautiful finishes like this 5years ago.. I would have originally gone
with his colour but needed a more durable finish (show bikes with kids around get knocked about)
-
spenc you are always welcomd mate for a canny cup o tea

Guys, I was amazed at the match of this paint - it was like looking in a mirror when the seat post was put beside my frame.... fookin amazing! :4_17_5:
Pints all round Neil, looking forward to seeing the finished frame, getting mine stripped and sent down to your man for a new coat.
Keep me posted dude :daumenhoch:

Oh, I also forgot to mention that the finish also looked light and thin - like a very fine dust of colour.... delicious! :daumenhoch:
