Title: 1979 mongoose 100% survivor build (with tuff I's) FINISHED

Right then this month for a little something different I decided to go 100% survivor build  :)

I imported this frame as part of a complete from the states last year as a donor build. It was a very cheap buy it now for a complete and the guy offered very cheap postage so I jumped on it as i wanted lots of the bits from it. So I stole everything i wanted from it for other builds and was left pretty much with just the frame and forks.


............Fast forward a year and by accident, more than design, I ended up with most of the bits to put her back together in a similar style but with some slightly different parts and a few personal tweeks.


I took a little bit of inspiration from the 82/83 catalogue cover picture with the yellow tyres in place of the black as I liked the look of it with the yellow compII's but I couldn't find any so I went for some nice cheng shin knobblies in yellow to give a similar-ish look.

The bike is a total survivor including original paintwork and decals (check out the funky bike license seat tube decal) - there is not a single NOS part on her and there has been NO restoration or paint touch-ups at all - just some hot soapy water and a bit of autosol  :)

So anyway on with the parts spec and finished pics.......

1979 mongoose frame in original black paint finsh and original decals
1979 mongoose/tange nickel forks (original to this frame)
1977 unstamped tuff I's with bendix coaster
1980? cheng shin knobblies
oakley 2 grips (these were actually an option grip for mongoose bikes in the 79/80 catalogue)
mongoose bars
ashtabula stem
ashtabula crank
sugino 40T chainwheel
union rat traps
mongoose stamped BB
mongoose stamped headset
mongoose stamped seat clamp
gold fluted post
troxel seat
early "TM" logo genuine mongoose survivor pad set

It's another cracking build John  :smitten:

Love the fact it's 100% survivor and that " bike licence " sticker just adds to it's appeal  :daumenhoch:

It looks proper old school with the coaster brake on and the genuine padset  :4_17_5:

To say I am jealous is an understatement :smitten:  had the same Frame as a kid and I have been on the look out for a suitable Frame to rebuild my childhood bike for ages, I have the Tuff 1’s in black with Bendix ready and waiting .
Top build mate :daumenhoch: especially as 70’s/early 80’s builds are thin on the ground of late.
