Title: WEST YORKS training thread
Post by: nhoj on October 12, 2009, 09:18 PM
Don't know if anyones bothered, but there are quite afew riders in the area and I thought you could post when your training - Bradford, Yeadon or Fearnville, and see if anyone wants to join you, it's got to be more productive with others!? ???

I'm off to Bradford tomorrow (Tuesday) for gate practice under floodlight.  6.30 kick-off if anyone fancies it. :daumenhoch:  Weather permitting ::)

Gunna do Bradford gate practice tomorrow by floodlight, it was time well spent last week :daumenhoch:

I quite like the track and with it being next on the race calender after Crewe every practice lap counts ;)

I don't however like the Yeadon track, which I visited on Saturday, that first double at the end of the first straight - lost it over there and can't believe I didn't go arse over tit :crazy2:    plenty of time to master that track before March though!!!

Leeds bmx club are now proposing a move to Fearnville track 'for a while' if they get enough support.  They are having problems with the council letting them use the gate for practice on Saturday afternoon at Yeadon.

Wonder if it will affect the winter series venue? :-\

FFS, container at Bradford has been broken into now according to website, nothing taken but lots of damage and they have had to empty it. 'Club at a stand still for the moment'.

Leeds can't decide what track to practice at andso no gate practice in the area at the moment!!! :(

Andy and I did Fearnyille today between showers, I'm knackered, rode alot harder because he was there, all good for getting race fitness up :daumenhoch:

I'll have to get a session in at Bradford next weekend, want to get as much practice on the track before the next regional meet, anyone fancy it?

I'm picking up a repaired amp (boom! >:D) in Leeds tomorrow afternoon. Anyone know if there's access to the Fearnville track at all times during weekdays? If so I can check out the state of the track on the way back.

So I went up to Fearnville mid afternoon yesterday. Track is not too bad at all, just a few bits of standing water. Not too soft generally. I guess it could be bad if it rains much more.

Post by: nhoj on February 26, 2010, 09:53 PM
I haven't been to Yeadon for ages, but I have heard that it has been flooded for a while now.

Bradford holds water pretty badly, there was loads of sweeping to be done before the regional, the only reason I am going is to give my son some experience of the gate :daumenhoch:

I have been very impressed with Fearnville over the last few weeks, amazing drainage and hardly a puddle in sight :daumenhoch:

C U tomorrow Jon :daumenhoch:

Just wondering on the condition of yeadon and bradford currently...Is a rowing boat a better choice than a BMX or  is it all clear?

Thanks
Title: Re: WEST YORKS training thread
Post by: nhoj on March 05, 2010, 03:43 PM
Bradford was knackered last weekend, dangerous IMO.  The frost had lifted all the topgravel and then the rain had soaked it.  It was like riding in 2inches of very wet sand.

I haven't been to Yeadon but heard the drainage was bad and that the track had alot of standing water.

Get yourself over to Fearnville, condition wise, the weather hasn't effected it over the last few months :daumenhoch:

Did an hour up at Yeadon yesterday. Diggler was having it large over the doubles on his cruiser and being very quick.
I was tired and dehydrated after my gig and struggled to keep upright in the wind... I slipped my pedals and my shin now looks like a ham pizza. Maybe shin pads are needed.
Any tips on pumping and manualling?

I had a banging session at Bradford at lunchtime today with the lad. He managed to pedal the whole of the 2nd straight (including the enormous mountain), and I was jumping the little doubles on the 2nd straight for the 1st time. Another potential OS racer was there (Richard) who was very fast and it was good doing gates together.

Dudes, I'm gonna need a few days away from doing any offroad or track riding, due to going over the bars last night.  I tried the downhill MTB trail at Stainburn on my cruiser and couldn't get my front wheel over one of the bigger boulders so over I went.  Mainly just grazes and bruises.

Me and Francis are gonna do the Sky City Ride in Bradford on August 29th if anyone else is up for it?

There wasn't any gates at Fearnville this week.  I got an email on Tuesday to say that they would be over at Yeadon on Wednesday but without the gates :-\

I would be suprised if they run any gates at Fearnville before the regional, I just don't think they get the numbers andso it isn't worth them bothering :-[

So we had fun up at Yeadon on Saturday, Arran S (one of the Bradford expert kids) was there showing how it's done. I jumped all of the penultimate straight (landing short on the first single plus table thingy) but was still chickening out of the big first straight doubles  :knuppel2:

Wednesday at Fearnville then for unofficial practice, me and MotomagII in so far, get there sometime before 7. Anyone else in?

The howling gale didn't stop us, I enjoyed riding under the floolights  :daumenhoch:

MotomagII showed his first straight pull by snapping his chain. I don't mean splitting a link either, I mean actually breaking the side plates of the chain - Go Gregster!!

Nice to meet MattFX81 for the first time as well.

My lad was looking smooth as, over the rhythms etc; I'm well pleased considering he only started riding this year!

Any chance that you could bring your freewheel remover tool as well?   :4_17_5:

Does anyone know if Yeadon is dry enough to ride (ie not underwater)?
I'm thinking about taking the lad for an hour after lunch.  I'm still paggered by this cold/flu thing I've had but I need a few minutes on my bike.  This inactivity is p1ssing me off.

Most of Yeadon is dry BTW, just the lower margins of the last berm are underwater.

It was underwater last sunday and it hadnt rained that hard beforehand, I would take one of these for the last half of the track  ; ;D

HHmmm - if it's just the last berm and straight then I don't mind, if it's more then it's not worth the trip.
Title: Re: WEST YORKS training thread
Post by: Jon The Bassist on November 06, 2010, 11:37 AM
We'll go to Yeadon and if it's too bad then we'll drive on to Bradford. I'll report back as to how bad it is at either/both track depending where we end up.
Title: Re: WEST YORKS training thread
Post by: Jon The Bassist on November 06, 2010, 03:37 PM
Only half of last berm is underwater, the rest of the track is okay. I spent about half an hour trying to manual that big double on the first straight and only managed it once, and then only just, it's a fecking long way across! Must be easier to jump... I had a go at jumping the next two doubles on that second straight and that went okay. I had a go at nosediving the last of the pair and sh1t myself as it looked like I was short but just had enough speed to make it.  :2funny:

The track is pretty worn with puddles and big piles of leaves etc so would need a bit of work to hold a regional level race I reckon. Loads of kids riding it which is the main thing  :daumenhoch:

I'll be going to Bradford tomorrow morning, as long as the weather isn't too severe. I plan to give the Falcon Pro a proper thrash.

No word from the club as to whether official gate practice is on but the track will be open to the public if not anyway  :daumenhoch:

Training is ON at Bradford tonight. The track had some snow earlier but is currently clear. However the weather is currently very cold and so any moisture on the track may freeze.
My advice for anyone planning to travel any distance is to not bother tonight. I won't be driving over from North Yorks.

ta, Jon

There was this sweet dirt jump spot hidden behind a scrap yard for donkeys years. I think the motocross lads built and maintained it..
There was a bmx track just off it outside cleckheaton too....it was bull dozed more years ago than I care to remember!!!

Sorry I dashed off without saying goodbye - me and the lad were knackered after setting off before 5 to get there for the accreditation, and had a long drive home.

Fookin terrible, neither rideable - waste of diesel. Practiced manuals over the speedbumps in the car park at Yeadon with the lad until we got too cold then went home :2gunsfiring_v1:

Training tonight at Bradford is still ON but keep an eye out for updates.
We've decided not to risk the bad weather driving there from Harrogate, so we won't be going - sorry to anyone bringing bits for me.
