BMX Chat / Re: Today I bought, or it got delivered, or I fitted...
« Last post by Mikku on February 23, 2026, 11:02 PM »
My S&M bars arrived yesterday and very nice and shiny they are too! :coolsmiley:

I removed the Haro race bars from the Sunday and comparing them to the Hoders, it was not just the size difference that was obvious but also the backsweep, with the Haros being much flatter. Grips and brake lever switched over, I fitted the Hoders and took the Sunday out for a shakedown spin around the rice fields. The first thing I noticed was how easy it was the pull the front up end, so much so that I nearly looped out! ;D  The bike felt okay to ride but I will reserve judgment until I take it to the skate park. Then I can decide whether I need to play around with spacers. :daumenhoch:

Forgot to mention. I have fitted two tracker tags to the bastud too. I've never ever left it anywhere, but I want to be prepared just in case.

OK so the last attempt at fitting gears to the feather went south. Turns out I have a cassette body that has not been made for over 30 years. Works great with single speed cogs but not full on cassettes. I was going to try and modify the 7 speed one I bought but tbh it would have ended in tears no doubt.

There's no getting around it, it's time to say goodbye to the HED rear wheel. It's served me very well and has done hundreds of miles but yeah....

So, I bought a rear wheel. China, from Aliexpress. I had some stipulations. 1. Clincher. I want a 28c tyre not the 25 I have now, and tubulars are becoming impossible to find and ludicrously expensive in 28c. Like, about 150 pounds for a tyre. I already have a Pirelli to match the front so it is on with that. I also wanted rim brakes. The final stipulation was QR. I prefer a solid axle (makes it hard to steal) but to get the cassette off means removing the entire axle and bearings and I am sick of doing it. The tool I have slots into a QR axle, meaning it can stay put.

Right so that is the same depth as the front then (88mm).

I then had to buy a new cassette.

And of course a new shifter as the others I bought were both 7 speed.

And that should be me all sorted for this summer. The rear deralieur is fine and I upgraded that too.

Bike in case you forgot what it looks like.

I am also praying that infection that ruined my entire summer stays F-ed off.

Have just pulled the trigger on some chrome S&M Hoder bars for my Sunday park bike. I’ve been after some bigger bars and these are certainly that, being the super high model with a 9.75” rise. Possibly a bit too big but if necessary, I can lower the bar height a bit by removing a spacer from under the stem. Size concerns aside, they were reasonably-priced and have also been cut down a bit, which saves me a job! :daumenhoch:

OK so as you will know I sold up. I kept this bike though, as it was my fave from the mid school and I effing loved mine. The seat is now lower, and the wheels have been replaced with NOS mid school. Supra E on the front, Supra G on the rear IIRC.

And now.

I don't like the bars. They have a weird geometry and the grip areas are far too short.

I always wanted a decent set of flatland come all round bars on it. So, I just got these.

In a 7" rise, natch.

I got them directly from TNT USA in a close out sale. £103 delivered with VAT and duties paid.

She's worth it.

I doubt I will do it til Spring but yeah..... I'm not getting back into it but I would like to finish what I started. The NBD is now finished so when this is done I can just keep the remaining four.

Hey hey.

I'm not getting back into collecting. However, this was one of the four I kept just in case I ever wanted to plod around on a new school bike.

Few months back I decided to finish it. Don't like the 4pc don't like the cranks or fork (the paint on both had started to crack because it was bad acrylic).

So here is what I got. Eastern bars.

With S&M grips obs. Knock off Profile box cranks from China.

And a new fork. All 4130 with proper paint on.

I will find the finished pics soon but.

I got stuck because the fork was stupid long and my hacksaw blade was blunt. It is finished now tho.

Yeah in the 14 years I was into it selling a complete was almost impossible. People just want to build it up themselves in their way which is quite understandable.

Which is why I got what I consider to be hardly anything compared to what I had spent. That said they were like a noose around my neck and I knew one day if mum went before me I would be totally and utterly screwed. So I just thought of something I wanted (a graphics card for my PC) and just let go.

Your stuff will be easier to sell though dude. Mid school stuff is very hard to sell. Also, things are totally on your side because Ebay is now basically empty. For mid school? there was basically nothing left to buy. Even the Facebook groups just completely dried up. I suppose when you have 15 years of high demand then eventually you will literally run out of things to find. That was another thing for me. The last couple of bikes I wanted to build would have cost me ridiculous amounts of money as they are all now in the hands of hoarders and collectors and you know how that is? basically you have to give them that dumb ridiculous price in their head or they simply won't sell it. Gone were the days of finding frames for £100 as they are all gone and people now want £500+ for them.

I did keep 4 which in fairness is 3 too many  :LolLolLolLol: but two of them especially were bikes I owned, rode and loved. Oddly they were the least valuable but as I learned then money doesn't buy you a bike you love riding. You get one that feels right... Which is what happened to me. I adored my Schwinn and I then got greedy and basically ruined things. Bike was continually in bits being messed with rather than ridden and enjoyed.

I can not imagine finding a buyer for them as completes but I may be wrong. I really do not want the hassle of breaking them up but I think that may be inevitable. I will certainly try the parts on here first, there is no doubt about that. Still pondering it all. Thank you for the replies.
