I'm now in possession of a 2007 Sunday Wave frame, the Vinnie Sammon edition in metallic black. It's definitely been well-used, with plenty of battle scars but that's fine by me, as I want a bike to play around on without worrying about dropping or scratching it. The frame came with a Sunday fork, FSA headset, Diatech Hombre U-brake and a set of mis-matched Odyssey wheels - a chrome Hazard Lite up front and a black Quadrant out back. I don't yet have all the other parts I need, but plan to start building it up this weekend. Can't wait!!

For the first time in 6 months, I made the drive down to Osaka on Sunday for the third round of the KBU race series. It was super hot and humid there, which probably explained why only 7 riders had entered the over 30s mixed class. This meant we had total points racing, with points being totalled up after the three motos for the final positions. Given the heat, I was happy at the prospect of only 3 races and ended up battling for 5th in all three motos, going 6th, 6th and 5th to finish 6th overall. A little disappointing, with 5th being a realistic goal but it was a fun day nonetheless. The next race is in two weeks' time, but that falls on the same day as the next Niigata race, so hopefully the weather helps me to avoid having to decide between the two! I may also be back on the Redline then, since I was finally able to pick up the wheels from Osaka.

Another package arrived today - a full Fitbikeco 175mm crankset along with a mid-BB, 25T sprocket and polycarbonate pedals. These were all removed from a complete Fit bike and judging from the teeth on the sprocket, appear to have never been used in anger. Stoked!

Agreed, though building 'em is a close second. I've been hitting my local park at least once a week since the last post and have recently been focussing on fakies, which I knew as rollbacks bitd. Back then I also did mine sitting down, so am now having to re-learn how to do them standing up! I'm also just about to start my Sunday park bike project, picking up the frame, fork and wheels for it this weekend. I also snagged a used Kink stem for it online. Looking forward to the build and remaining parts-gathering!

Not today but have recently picked up a Kink stem from a Japanese auction site. This is my first official purchase for my first ever, non-race bike build! If all goes well, I should hopefully be picking up the frame, fork and wheels for it this coming weekend.

Back at Joetsu today for Round 3 of their series. Back on the GT too, after using the Quamen last time out. There were 8 riders in the over 30 class, and I went 6th, 3rd, and 7th, with place changes in every moto. That put me in the sixth-place qualifying spot for the main, where I chose lane 6. I got out okay and was in a three-way battle for 5th, finally finishing in 6th. A super fun albeit stifling hot day, with some good racing. I could also definitely feel the difference between the Quamen and GT, with the lighter weight and higher gearing of the latter much more suited to both me and the track. Next race is in 2 weeks' time, down at Oizumi in Osaka. Looking forward to it.

Some BMX shit. I really want to paint my knockoff Profile classic cranks yellow. Thing is whilst there is gold on the bike there is no other yellow. So I snagged those. I am going to paint the cranks next week.

An unusually dry weekend meant that the postponed race from two weeks ago thankfully went ahead as scheduled. As I've been riding it a lot recently, I decided to give the Quamen its Japanese race debut, switching out the pedals, grips and seat for something more suitable but leaving the 43/16 gearing and knobbly Holy Roller tyres. There were 12 riders in the over 30s class, split into two racks of 6 with the top 4 going through. I went 4/4/3 with dices in every moto. Part of the reason for that was being much slower on the first straight where that lower gearing and the heavier weight of the Quamen (compared to the carbon GT and Redline) were definitely noticeable. Anyway, I squeezed into the main where I finished 7th, with a bit of leg cramp for good measure. The next race is in 2 weeks, back at Joetsu when I'll return to using the UB2 to see if that really makes a difference to my performance and results. Bring it on!
