1977 CYCLE PRO FOILER, NOW BUILT UP.......
« on: September 10, 2012, 09:00 PM »
Got one at long last ( Huge thanks to my pal in the states for letting this very desirable and rare frame come to the UK  :4_17_5: ). this frame is in stunning condition and as far as I know the only one in the UK.

1977 Cycle Pro Foiler, made for Cycle Pro by Bill Bastian's Race Inc at the RI factory from 77 to early 79 when they also made the Spoiler (the same frame but with the round top tube). There's obvious links to SE here not only via Bill but also the rear end of the frame is the same as the RI RA7 and Early Rippers, the top tube is the same as the Kawazaki BX-200's and diamond drops taken from the FMF's which then went onto Laguna's, race Inc's and 5 Prototype Rippers.

The Foilers came in the same finish as the 77 Race Inc's. Red, Blue, Gold amd polished/burnished. :daumenhoch:

I've already started making some plans for the build, so I'll keep updating the thread as I make progress  :)

Heres the Foiler frame hanging on the wall in The Bike Gallery above the BD-III for sale at $84.95  (not mine didn't cost that  >:()

And mine  :smitten:

ideally i'd want chrome forks for it, Race inc, Laguna, Speedo, cook etc etc. Theres plenty of options which is good. I've decided to keep the colours down to a minimum with mainly  polished/original finish and hints of blue.

Tis a thing of beauty.   :smitten:  I'm guessing Skyway were inspired by the top tube on this frame when they designed the T/A?

Re: 1977 CYCLE PRO FOILER FRAME 'interesting update'

Once again all the comments are appreciated  :4_17_5:

I've had a very interesting email sent regarding this frame, I know I'm the 3rd owner and the previous one got the frame from a racer who went on to win several local races with it. So I Asked some questions to find out where the bike came from when it was 1st bought, and to my amazement here's the reply  ^"^

"Ash,

The bike was purchased from Bob's Bike Shop in Portland Oregon in the summer of 1978 and ridden by Steve Richmond. I know he won quite a few local races with it. I don't think he ever went to Nationals on it.

 Jeremy

Now this is seriously awsome news and confirms that the frame was infact purchased from The Bike Gallery in 78, I've already emailed people who worked at the Gallery to try and find out if the frame on the wall is now mine.  It's probably a long shot but it's worth trying  :)
