1977 Mongoose Motomag...
« on: January 29, 2013, 06:19 PM »
Ok, as a kid i always wanted a Mongoose but alas we were a poor family with nothing but bread crusts and pork rind for dinner. So instead of the 'Goose i got a Team Murray for my 11th birthday back in '81.

Now i'm 42 years young and finally own my own piece of 'Goose BMX history.

I managed to score a '77 frame and forks/seat/post from Ebay for ok money.

Parts list is:

Lester Mags
'79 Ashtabula Crank
'76 Schwinn 'Sweetheart' chainring
KKT Rat traps
ACS chain
Bronx Orbit Tires
Velo seat
Strong seatclamp
Airline stem
Apehanger bars
Huntwild grips
Decal pack from BMX Products

The nickel on the frame is in pretty good shape, i haven't polished it up just ran a damp cloth over it, then applied the decals neatly into the 'gaps' left by the og decals.

I know the bars are not to everyones taste but i ride this every weekend and it really is comfortable to cruise around on.

This is my third full build.

Regards...Steve :daumenhoch:

I love this.  8)

It's putting me in mind of The Red Hand Gang  ;D (that's probably the bars, as I dont think they rode BMX's but had Chopper-like rides)

I took it down to the BMX track in Dagenham a couple of weekends ago and the looks i got from the Dad's there, ranged from "WTF is that?" to "Rad ride man" (i kid you not)...Steve :daumenhoch:

P.S. I even managed to pop a couple of 180's on it over the little skatepark albeit 70's stylee :LolLolLolLol:

Always good to see another 'seventy seven'. I picked up a '77 frame in good shape several years back & have been slowly collecting correct parts for it as a back burner project. [I have about 12 other BMX to restore first] I guess I have about 70% of it now & the correct '77 Ashtabula stem is the most recent piece. One day I'll get there, .......... one day.

Glad to see that you put yours to the task it was made for, .... riding. Congratulations on a very neat ride.
I'll be building Quickies till the day I die, ..... & maybe a couple of days after that.
