Suntour coaster onto skyway graphite ?
« on: May 15, 2013, 07:29 PM »
The haro build im doing requires original  skyway graphites
with a suntour coaster brake fitted
Seen this on ebay, can this be fitted to the graphite or can parts of it be used..?

Wheels will have campy hubs

No. You may be able to use the guts though,on a Skyway specific Suntour Coaster hub (the ones with the four bolt through flanges)

as above you need the one with the skyway flange center , i don'rt think you can strip it to put in a normal hub , they do come up regular

i don't know if it was possible to stick a (skyway/)suntour coaster {repair} kit in to a TuffII EVEN IF yours already WERE a suntour cassette style hub ..... we'd need pics

Just collecting smaller parts as I see them
So do I not use a freewheel with a coaster ?

i believe not. Coasty on museum is pretty good with tuff-related question and he writes (2008) (http://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=45065):
"You would have to cut the rear hub out and replace it with a coasterbrake hub. Theres always hubs on UK ebay."       You will also see if there any of the beformentioned COASTER replacement kits available on the bay. If so, it might be possible ----MIGHT---- to convert a (suntour) freewheel cassette style hub into a coaster, using that.

campy hub   .... guess thats the square metal flange ..... golden bling?  :D Oh man.... you're on a quest  :-X ;D, hang in there  :daumenhoch:

pics of HARO's hub  might be of interest too (it's his 1983 title bike were talkin, right?) ...... who knows, maybe he's got something like a suntour flip-flop style coster sprocket in the end?!?    ...... i believe there might be such a thing...? not quite sure. but if yes, there's still the question whether a 1983 Haro could have had it...... rather doubt it.

Dunno, when did the flip-flops start    .....1985?

edit:
this is a suntour flip-flop style sprocket  (1 in pic happens to be freewheel and 14T)

Pretty sure Bobs bike wouldn't have had a bolt in rear hub though.

And if you can't find a factory coaster graphite, would you really drill out a campy rear hub to fit one?, I know I wouldn't.

There isn't such a thing as a coaster flip flop hub, nearest you will get is an acs freewheel converter, which allows you to use as a standard coaster, or standard freewheel, fooking heavy, and you still need the coaster specific skyway hub. These were much later in the day too.

... idunno, maybe leehunt aint so wrong with his idea of "So do I not use a freewheel with a coaster ?"   .... just might be straightforward thinking.
--- i mean, if its true that a "JB Adaptor kit" (coaster to freewheell) basically consists of only a replacement of just the "driver"-component of the hub (f.ex. http://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=103895) ----- then why shouldn't it work to fit the ('equivalent') coaster parts of an extra (non graphite) suntour hub into the suntour freewheel hub of a nice set of (campy) graphites leehunt's wil have to look out for....?

Isn't it just a reversal of what you do when you convert a coaster into f/w using a kit   ------ only now using a spare coaster wheel/hub as the (donor) "kit"?
That way he wouldnt have to destroy a set of square flange (= campy ?) graphites    ------- (neglecting the problem of the 'goldeness' of the flanges here for a moment  :crazy2:).  ???
Guess i'm wrong, though. Just becasue there exists a kit that can adapt to a coaster hub and turn it into f/w doesn't necessarily mean that the coaster-specific driver components fit into a f/w hub, only because they're both suntour  :crazy2:.         But maybe it IS possible... i doubt it, though.

2) But how about this: just slap a Campy hub cap mod on a set of new graphites ...................??
3) What you seem to plan anyway:........ replace old f/w hub with an old suntour coaster hub ................... And then what... slap a Campy hub cap over it, or even replace the old flanges of the coaster hub? ......... hope you're lucky and find an old suntour coaster hub with SQUARE flanges (..... is there a difference between campy and just square...? I think yes, so chances are you'd have to replace flanges anyway )

if you don't have a spare grand for the frame and forks, you're fooked for the campy graphites then
