Rim and tyre combinations?
« on: December 07, 2013, 07:41 PM »
Are there any no go combinations?  1.5 rim - 2.25 tyres for example?  Or is it always best to match the rim to the tyre?

I remember BITD lads putting 2.125 on the back, and 1.75 on the front, in a sort of dragster, American hot rod style, probably at 13 years old seemed cool, defo a tragic choice on a bike now. :wtf:

I don't think it really matters I personally like the look of 1.5 tyres on 1.75 rims . look racey , and 2.25 tyres on 1.75 rims look scrambly, I've had 2.25 tyres on 1.5 rims and they looked fine

I think that 1.50 tyre's looks skinny... so my best choice will be 1.75 and 2.25

Not at all , I have just fitted some 1.75 Rainbows to some Araya 1.5's and they look good , I then changed them to some 80's Cheng shin 1.75's because i wanted the build to be more date correct  ;)

I have 1.75 Cheng Shin comp 3 style treads fitted to a set of Araya 7x 1.50's, and they look and perform fine. I think anything wider than a 1.75 tyre on a 1.50 rim may look a bit wrong, and might not be the safest either...

Like trying to balance a jelly on a lolly stick  :D

I have now fitted a 1.75 comp III to my Torker LP on the front to give it the fat/thin combo, as I have a 1.5 comp III on the rear  :daumenhoch:

The Thin/Thiner (1.75/1.5) look is fast becoming my favourite look

Four of my Pro size bikes are set up that way at the mo :coolsmiley:

I run 1.75s on 1.75s and always make my doubles   ::) so tyres are important  ::) :2funny:

loves ya digs  :-*

to be honest, all my o/s racers but 2 had 1.75s with 1.5 rims, never gave it a second thought  :daumenhoch:
