Author Topic: Seat post slightly too big,freeze it ?! (Read 1364 times)

I have a seat post I am trying to get into my Decoster but for some reason it seems a very tight fit.
I know it's oldschool size as it came out of a Puch I split ages ago.
It also won't fit a Haro FST I have.
I have seen on here about freezing BB cups so they go in easier so will it work with a seat post ?

Sounds like it's either the wrong size or it's coated in powder.

Are you sure its not a section of scaffolding or lamp post as that won't fit?

Yep tried a layback in there and it fits ok.
It's deffo not the wrong size and it's chrome not powder.
We are not talking massively too big we are talking maybe half a mm if that,just slight.....

Are you sure it's not a 22.6 when you need a 22.2mm?

This thread reminds me of the recent haro one where to get it in, the thing needed filing - but it's a really good way to bond the two together and potentially fook things up big time

The post came out of an oldschool Puch frame so I presumed it was 22.2 size,maybe not,learn something new every day.
Will see if it has shrunk tomorrow night....

If it's a very tight fit there is a risk that you won't get it out very easily when you need to; you would be surprised how much heat is generated forcing the two metals together and they could fuse together. I would get a set of digital vernier calipers and check the inside diameter of the seat post tube and the outside diameter of the seat post before trying to force anything.
