Correct OGK axle widths and set up?
« on: November 22, 2014, 01:56 PM »
In a vane attempt to beat my hangover I've just stripped a set of OGKs and need to find out what the correct axle spec is.  Front has caged bearings fitted, rear is loose ball like metal hub tuffs.

Can anyone enlighten me what's correct - Loose ball, or caged?  Correct axle lengths for front and rear?  26 or 28tpi? are rebuild kits available as I need a couple of dust seals.

IMHO you are better off with loose balls, you get more in there and they run smoother.  Caged bearings are fine but the cages can break up when not maintained and kept well adjusted this results in the cages breaking up and buggering the hub.  I would suspect yours are fresh from the factory with caged on the front (less stress) and loose on the rear (more stress); it's not an unusual combination to have.

Cheers Marty, am I right in thinking they are the same as GT wheels?  If so I found a pic that might have answered my question......... could still do with a source for dust seals though........ I'm thinking I could butcher a couple of cheap axle kits for the cones with built in seals?

Hiya Bert
I used a couple of Bendycats axle kits in mine & they work a treat, got the seals built into the washers & everything.  If you're after the suize dust caps i've probably some somewhere  :chin:
