I have some nutless suntour sealed hubs but none of those in my stash fit?

Suntour BMX sealed hubs use the same axles front and rear, 10 x 1 mm so they should definitely fit.

I bought some for a hub that had sat with no nuts for years and they didn't appear to fit either, would only screw onto the axle a little bit on each side.

The axle was slightly corroded and dirty I gave the threads a good clean with a brass brush then carefully put the nut with a bit of engine oil to lubricate.

If the worst comes to the worst you can get replacement 10 x 1mm track axles, not cheap though.

Spence have you tried taking the cones off the rear and to see if they fit the front?

Also if you do take the cones off it will help to clean the thread.

Put a rule along the axle and count the threads to work out the thread pitch 10 x 1 mm are 10 to the CM and 26 TPI are 26 to the Inch.

Both 26tpi but ends on rear needed cleaning up. I'm so heavy handed was scared to force and thread it. Cheers for the help 😊👍

Take the lock nuts and screw the cones off and they'll clean up the ends, good spray of GT82 on the axles while your turning them.

I'm surprised/confused they are imperial because if the 10x1 fitted the front it can't really be 26 tpi.

Were they off an AP?

As I can make out the BMX and Track hubs where metric and the Road/MTB were imperial so theres an outside chance it could be right.

If you're just going by measurement I'd definitely double check by seeing if the cones fit both axles. If the rear cone is 26tpi it's standard so it should fit an ordinary axle and an ordinary axle nut should fit it.

Defo going by a plastic ruler and my eye sight under the garage light. Not sure if came from an ap but the front cone fits the rear axle so they are the same size.
Think I'll take a wheel to our local nut shop

Think suntour are 24 tpi they are not a standard 10 mm thread. The threads are wider than normal 10mm USA use imperial thread and jap/Taiwan use metric. Stock old school was 3/8"

They are definitely not 24 TPI.

They are (most likely) metric fine 10 x 1 mm the reason I know is because I fitted them to set of Suntour BMX sealed bearing hubs and then recommended them to others who also fitted them.

There's an outside chance they could be 26tpi but I doubt it.

Others have used used 10 x 1 mm as well.

I can't help with the sizing , but the axle nuts that are on my sealed Suntour hubs don't have that flange / spinny washer thingy on 'em .

They look like these type , but a better quality finish ........

Nope 24 tpi I've been around a long time and worked with bikes for many years. The thread is wider than the usual thread. Check with Ålans bmx he will know for sure

Some of the Suntour hubs did come with the track style nuts, that is they had the washer attached.

The nuts from SJS are chrome the ones on ebay are zinc plated.

Yep agreed 10 x 1 which explains the coarser thread and the reason that stock nuts didn't fit. Always a joy when companies manufacture different threads and nut sizes lol 1/4" Allen bolts on USA stems etc. means the tool kits twice as heavy as it really ought to be

Here's the BMX page out of the 1985 catalog, although it's in Japanese if you maximise the image you can make out 10 x 1 mm in the description for the BH 1000 & BH 1100 hubs.

Just had a look at that link , and the sealed bearing hubs do have 10 x 1 amongst the chinese writing .

Next to them in the pics though are the unsealed bearing hubs , which have look to have 3/8 x 26tpi axles ??

From what I can gather , a 10mm x 1mm nut will go on either axle , with a slightly 'loose' fit on the 3/8 x 26 tpi .

Whereas a 3/8 x 26tpi nut will only fit comfortably on a 3/8 axle and would need forcing onto a 10mm axle , probably damaging the thread .

Suntour sealed bearing hubs have m10 x 1 thread.

Nuts this size can be easily obtained, however they will be a 17mm spanner size.

I made some with 15mm spanner size and got them plated, they are an exact match for the OG nuts
