Yea he has Ant. 😜 a koizumi team AP, and my chrome tange pro race. Il get some pics up later.
Btw, the mk1 and mk2 ultra burners came with top spec parts. Arayas, suntour stem, sugino crank set, alloy bars. DC 1020 Brakes. i remember my bros mk1 standard burner actually came with a kashi mx sear and chrome/steel arayas..??!!

I thought all AP's and TAP's were Tange made??

You learn something new every day in this hobby.

There's a distinct lack of Team Aero Pro's in this thread, so here's some of Julian's, I'm sure he won't object to me showing them.

Of course, these are just a few that I've hand picked from his amazing collection.

Here's my 84 Tange Team Ap survivor. Almost 100% original.

The koizumi ones came with tange arx forks and had crimped chain stays and the usual serial number on the rear drop out. I heard koizumi stepped in when tange couldn't keep up with demand.

Always liked Burners.  8) Probably the biggest selling BMX in the UK.  :daumenhoch:

The Aero Pro/Team burners are really cool, but they're not really burners are they? Discuss....

Yes.

Most BMX brands in the 80's outsourced framebuilding either from the outset like Kuwahara (Tange) or Diamond Back (Koizumi) or when it became more cost effective GT (Koizumi, Kinesis, Giant etc etc) Haro (Akisu).

I've got a couple ( and some of Julian's were built from framesets he got from me!)

This was/is a NOS frameset built up with nos red parts instead of black:

And this was Team rider Paula Dibben's race bike, a Koizumi frameset and as it was found/last raced. A really old pic, I've had it since 2002/3 and it's tucked away in storage.

Very nice😊 Loving the Team Pro racer. I actually prefer them (these days) without the Tuffs.

Love the Aero Pro other than those silly chain guards they put on them, just don't look right to me  :-\

I'm not keen either but I built it as close to factory but red bits as I could. Of course, these days it would have reflectors too but we didn't do daft stuff like that 15 years ago!

It's weird Rob but I've had to source one to put on my survivor build as it was missing ... I wasn't sure myself but I feel as its kinda going to be 99% factory spec that it wouldn't look right without it  :-[

Best one I've ever seen was a baby blue one done with black parts.

One of the best bikes I've seen on here.
One build a year, the only way to get it right. No rushing involved.

Like 'em or not, Burners are a big part of British old school history. I never had one bitd but coveted my friend's AP, being the nearest I was ever going to get to a Laserlite!! :D I'm therefore always going to have a soft spot for these, so keep 'em coming! :daumenhoch:

I don't understand the burner stigma. A lot of people starting out in bmx rode burners or other low end bikes. Most of my mates and me included started out on low end bikes, and I think to most people their first bmx will always be the one they have the fondest memories of.

I agree mate, I never had one BITD, but have built a few since 2008. Their best attribute is the waves of nostalgia that they create, but their worst are that they're heavy with poor geometry, not that many of us would have cared back then - you got what you were given.

Most of us are now heavy with poor geometry Dan  ???  ;D

Great thread - only just seen this. Some lovely builds posted up already. I started out on a SuperTUFF Burner and have a mintola Mk1 Ultra in my stash (never ridden it), and I will always have a soft spot for them, in whatever guise. A lot of this hobby is about the memories certain bikes evoke, and for a lot of us Burners are at the very heart of these.

I'd quite like to get my hands on one of these one day I think.

Funking in your space since 1984.
