Life's got in the way of moving this forward and finalising this build, but I'm on it now.

I've seen that Picklez is in action with his Trix build, listing out the parts, so I thought I'd better do the same. The thing is, I've changed my mind on a number of finishes on the parts, and that's slowed me down, 'dry running' the build. The current situation is that I'm all decided now with exception to pedal colour. I'm currently going gold but will most probably swap them out for silver as I did on most of the other parts. If I'd of gone a white frame finish I'm sure I would have gone gold. Another big decision was whether to run a ACS Rotor - its period correct, but they weren't great (more later). Anyway, this is how its looking:

Bars: Woody Itson Freestyle Bars (Hutch) in white original finish - they do have some very small marks on them, but I didn't think they warranted a refinished. Once the og finish is gone, its gone!
Grips: A'me Duals in Red/Yellow (I've tried out some A'me Tri's in red, and some B1B's in red/yellow, but couldn't really use them as they are 2010 reissues)
Stem: Hutch Western Freestyle, rechromed by Capital Chrome (formerly London Chroming)
ACS Rotor (this was a big decision as it effected the headset choice and colour) - I was considering ditching it, more later, and using a Hutch 1" headlock as they look so good with the Hutch stems,
Headset: Tioga Beartrap in Chrome with ACS Rotor cup (I had a Gold Hatta MX100 ready to go)
Brakes: Silver tech 4's with Silver FS880's (I had gold tech 3's and gold FS880's)
Cables: Dia Compe, off the roll and cut to length, transparent red cable outers with DC Inners,
Brake Blocks: ACS
Wheels: Orange ACS Z rims with Orange ACS hubs and white spokes
Tyres: Tioga Compe ST's
Crankset: Redline 401's with loose bearings
Disc: Pro Neck Power Disk in white
Chainwheel: Sugino 43T in Gold
Pedals: Shimano DX in Gold

This is as the build stood Saturday morning, and I plan to get it finished this week....

and the chain will be a DID 1/8" in silver, and the freewheel is an 80's NOS Suntour chromoly cogged 16T.

Here's some of the parts..................

Ignore the gold whale tails and suntour seat clamp....they never made it onto the build.

So, as my earlier post, I considered a number of different options for the steering end of the bike. I've a few freestyle builds from 84/85 and they all have the Potts mod and a few from 87/88 where they have the ACS Pro Rotors, but I don't have any with a Rotor.

When rotors came out I ran one on my Performer and loved the idea of the 'spinning' bars without snagging the cables, but they didn't really have the stopping power you needed for freestyle tricks like kick turns or back hops, so I ran a coaster as well (in fact I probably ran a coaster first, before the rotor). I do remember bending the rear caliper spring out as far as we could and 'pre-loading' the brakes so the rotor would have a more positive feel in the return, and I've done it this time and it works okay. I haven't got a coaster on the Z's so sticking the Rotor on was a vanity / museum thing really. As I've said, for me in part its about 'charting' or recording Freestyle bikes. But now the front ends all built up I really like it.

To help get that west coast/ Huntingdon beach freestytlin' look I had Del knock me up some AFA decals which I've dropped onto the bars.

When I was born, the world was a far simpler place.
It was all just cops and robbers.
And BMX.

Okay, finally finished this and I'm pretty happy with it. I'll post the build spec next.

I really wish I was 16 again, that it was '85 and my best mate Andy still had our trick ramp in his front garden!!!

Really great build, you just don't get threads like this that you can go back to on FB.

Along with Deemans Sport this is my favourite build this year.

I was thinking as well,it would be good if the admin could make another section on the site specifically for build threads such as this one.

I don't know if this is possible but would be a great addition to the site.
