78 Redline MXll in the sun.
« on: March 13, 2017, 11:28 PM »
First sign of spring here in the UK and visited my Dads for the weekend. Decided to see what the 78 looked like in the sun.
I'd rather eat worms than ride a sears BMX.

Pedals on and Campagnolo dust caps on the cranks.

Thanks Marty! Thinking a number plate and change of saddle for it.  ;)

In keeping with the Euro theme, perhaps a Cinelli seat? Their wider platform may offer a more comfortable [less uncomfortable?] ride.
I have a couple of Cinelli's & am planing on a full Euro component build in the future.

None the less, looking pretty sharp in the sunshine parked next to that European car.
I'll be building Quickies till the day I die, ..... & maybe a couple of days after that.

Cinelli seat sounds like a cool idea CDBMX. Something different from the norm. Definitely in keeping with the European parts. Will have a look into it. Thankyou.
Its a repop 356 and been in hibernation for the winter. Had to get a picture with the connection with Porsche and Redline.

Made a plate for the MX ll. It's a Hunt and Wilde plate. CYC and Team Redline decals are OG. Had some prism sticky back plastic knocking around so cut out some numbers and an X.

Looking sharp.  Now you make sure that it gets out into the sunshine when you can. It deserves to be seen.

Got this in the post today. The seller posted it yesterday and it got here at 8am this morning. Scotland to London. CDBMX and a couple of others mentioned  Unicantor and suede were used. Needs guts but no problem.

I had bought some of these in red & yellow when they popped up one by one a few years ago. These are really an early to mid '80's sort of thing when the High End Italian roadie component manufacturers tried to dip their collective toes into the BMX market. I think your suede covered example will be more suitable, .... & comfortable.

Was chatting to a fella on a bmx page on facebook and Cinelli came up in conversation. He mentioned suede saddles they had in the 70s. Got me thinking. More comfortable but keeping clean I'm not sure about?? Will get some pictures up when i get a chance CD 👍

I ran a suede saddle for a while bitd, waasn't a problem keeping it clean but it did scuff easily especially when putting my bike upside down to let Andy Roker try and bunny hop it!

Those were great times Marty. Was that on your Scorpion? My brother was asking if anyone had any pictures at Haydon Hall. Want to get some pictures down there this year and the old Hayes track. Its still there but grassy in parts.

Hi Si, they were indeed great times!  Yep, it was on my Scorpion.  There are some pictures of Hayden Hall on Facebook and Paul Roberts might have some.  Sadly I didn't have a camera bitd so don't have many photos at all; just some awesome memories!

Certainly awesome memories 😎  Seem to remember Andy had a camera. Looking back at some of the first BMXs in the UK then was cool. Geoff's Proline and later Hutch. Andy's second Torker lol. Remember you turning up with the small chainring. How did you get all the way from Ivor on it? Great times.
