MT Racing Silverfox
« on: April 06, 2017, 09:03 PM »
I've just got a silverfox, does anyone know what the spec is on brakes wheels etc, the brakes say MX and 900 on the back but I don't think that they are dia-compe.

Sounds right
Spec depends on the year to some degree, rims would have been Sumo (Araya style)
Will try & find the magazine ad that I used to paw over as a kid  ;)

Not sure how well this will show up (phone screenshot) but go to oldschoolmags.com and get the May 83 bmx action if you want a better look
Let's see some pics of yours & welcome to the club  fistblump
I don't think I'd ever sell my sliver fox!

If you're using a phone, then there are apps that shrink photos
There's also the chance that you're doing too many at once, maybe try just one?
Or do what I did above and add a screenshot

If all else fails there's always photobucket or Imgur....  ;)

What Nick said ^
Citric acid bath and a bit of a Peek polish and that should come up a treat!

Please keep us posted on how you get on  :daumenhoch:

Welcome to Rad Austin  fistblump

Looks like you have a pretty much stock Silverfox  :daumenhoch: Griffs spec advert is a good guide , some earlier ones came with Kin Lin rims and Wellgo DX style pedals .

Looking forward to seeing what you do with it .

A bit of progress I've stripped the bike down cleaned off all the rust and grime and polished it fitted new headset bearings but the threads on the steerer were a bit squared off and the original nut wouldn't go back on so I've used a burner one until I can sort it.
New decals fitted .
Brakes stripped cleaned and fitted.
Just waiting for wheels and tyres and a few other bits.
I'll add some more photos soon.

Would have been nice if you could have kept the original decals on, but that does look great

Look forward to seeing it built up  :daumenhoch:

One side of the decals were in really poor condition I thought twice about replacing them.
Wheels and a few bits turned up just waiting for the tyres and freewheel.

Finished my Silverfox it's had  New parts:Brake cables, Padset, Decals, Grips, seatpost, chain, chainring, bottom bracket, Headset bearings, Dome nuts and various caliper bits, tyres & tubes, freewheel and wheels.
I might in the future get the original wheels rechromed but I like the look of the black ones.
