1992 Murray Stay Holmes
« on: May 29, 2017, 09:09 AM »
I built this over winter and managed to take some pics of it over the weekend. Its a bike that means a lot to me as 2 of the Pro's who raced local to me rode them back in the 90's. Eventually I bought one of the bikes a few years later and I ended up riding S&M frames right up until the early 2000's (when I switched to T1's). Anyway, thanks to everyone who helmed with this build, especially Nick who parted with the F&F.  :daumenhoch:

If any of the internet detectives looked at my instagram they would know it has been finished for a while haha. Unfortunately it always takes me ages to get out and shoot decent pics.  :daumenhoch:

Mid school is not my forte but that is a beauty. Love the survivor pedals looking beat up with everything else looking blingy. Really nice touch I've not seen anyone else do.

Thanks for the kind words. Its actually pretty rough all round, but the chrome on the frame is in really good shape. I gave it a quick polish before putting the decals on and it came up like new. Everything else is a bit battered but the more bikes I build the more I like them that way.  :LolLolLolLol:

I used to love building bikes to look quite blingy but with used parts as all my bikes were built to be fit for purpose n raced n thrashed, any value lost was replaced with a real looking bike and a a shit loads fun n adrenalin that you couldn't put a price on. Mid bikes are ridable as fook, id never heard of any of the favourite bikes I've had as they were after my time but they rode amazingly and all got a good kicking.  Pedals should always look used :daumenhoch:

Haha, Ed if I can get you to build an S&M I will hang up my boots.  :LolLolLolLol:

In all seriousness though, S&M's are common as muck but one thing they cant be is boring. One of the most charismatic brands to have ever been in BMX, and the early 90's stuff could be built into race, trails, street, or freestyle bikes. Proper bikes for the masses, and they actually rode nicely as well.  :daumenhoch:

the "dirtbike" was so versatile that you could ride flatland on it with a 74deg headangle and 19"tt, as DINO JEFFERS did from n-Ireland for most of the mid90s ;) ;) ;) ;)

The chrome on the mk2 Holmes were the best I've seen on any bmx.
Mine had the piss-take fluorescent decals, which I only tracked down last week and arrived today to finally get it back to the way it was 25 years ago in time for a thrashing at MK [ Attachment: You are not allowed to view attachments ]
