Brake blocks vs chrome rims
« on: June 11, 2017, 09:40 AM »
Morning folks!

This is regarding a new school build...

I am putting nice new school chrome rims (Cult) on my bike, now I don't want to see nasty brake marks on them, so should I use black brake blocks or clear brake blocks...or will neither mark the rims?

Cheers!
Rich.

I use clear trials specific pads on all my bikes as I'm a great big heavy coont , bit squeaky but they do the job

Any colour pad you use will wear/dull the chrome down if that's what you mean by marking the rims? Also I've seen some frames with ripped out mounts from clear pad, chrome rim combo's, will lock up well though!

My main worry was whether black brake block would put black streak marks around the rims?

clear blocks are horrible on chrome rims any medium soft block will work fine, odyssey or koolstop work very nicely with not to much bite and perfect feather ;) ;) ;) ;)

No it won't do that, just keep your rims & pads clean, & you'll just have to put up with a bit of brake wear on the chrome, no getting round it!

Cracking :)

Thanks for all the replies folks, much appreciated!

I didn't want to make the same rookie error I did as a kid by using black brake blocks on my brand new Tuff IIs only to see black streaks form around the rims  :'(
