Skinnies? What's that all about then?
« on: October 21, 2017, 09:17 AM »

Okay I know smaller kids ( like Tony Lee )  rode skinnies BITD ..
But did bigger riders .. why? What are they all about .. ?
Was it a choice?
Could I race them against 'fat and thin' tyre riders?
What was the score?
Anyone ride them now?

Bubba Hayes on some ...
Which got me thinking about all this ..

Lighter , faster .
Could be twitchy going in to a corner on lose gravel.

I had them Bitd. I remember Tony Holland , Craig Schofield and Dale home using them .  :daumenhoch:

Skinnier tyre ...less resistance.....more speed!
Lets not forget Eddie Fiola either who rode them in the 85 KOSP in an attempt to get more air than the others!

isn't this a question we should be asking DTTDB after seeing his BOTD entries?

I used them for a while bitd on a Procraft I had,  they were great on hard packed surfaces but tended to get loose and wash out on anything else.

:) When you change from standard size rims/tyres do you change your gearing to match? You should do..:)

I've never had them or even ridden a bike with them but with a few exceptions, they generally just don't look right to me!

BITD I raced on skinnies 1" 3/8th up to been about 12 then swapped over to 1.75's as I was a big lad back then to  :2funny: :2funny:

They were more for the pocket rockets  :daumenhoch:
I might actually build a bike this year instead of just hoarding parts :)

Great wheels imo. Nice and strong too. Limited to what bikes look good with them on really.
