DP Firebird build
« on: November 13, 2017, 10:03 PM »
So I managed to score a nice DP firebird about a year ago now.
It was right at the other end of the country but with some quick work and help form Poolysherif he managed to grab it for me.
Here it is after the pick up

Roll on another six from that and i meet up with Gaz for the pick up & a chat‍♀️.
Strip down started and it wasnt all good news , the paint was shocking & certainly not og ,also on closer inspection a hairline crack on the seat post tube ☹️

So with most the other parts being trashed it was going to have to be a full resto. Now im all about survivor but this was all over show and the crack decided it for me. So the only thing to do was to drop it off to that man Sawzall for repair and a paint job.
I said to Phil there was no rush to get this done as it was going to be a slow build , & ill let you know on a colour when i decide lol.
So another few months on and ive just collected it from Phil.
WOW what a cracking job as always.
Repair has been done and a few minor dents and a tad of drop out wear has been tidied up.  Decided on baby blue and this really pops its been painted and not powdered so its a lovely finish.

Because it was away for a while it gave me a chance to source some parts.
Barefeet from jaymz
50/50 tuffs from Sawzall
Grips from gaz.
The bars and seat post were bits i already had so they went of for paint to.
Th crank setup is og to the bike so nice to reuse something.
The brake set came from Facebook.
All dated 86 inc cables, apparently its a repop d/c brake set, i hate Facebook but it was a bargain at £25 posted !

Thanks Mate , its a great colour , certainly done it a bit of justice i think.

I will speak to firebird Steve in due course for some decals & maybe a frame pad.

Apart from that i just need to source a stem for it .

I dont think the red seat will work, so trying to trade , if not  i might try and dye it?!

For my taste the red and blue doesn't go that well together. Blue - chrome and black is a nice combo though.  :daumenhoch:

Few more decals added , custom all black bar decals , and the nitto post has a GT coin decal, seems right as someone had originally fitted one to the post before.
Just waiting on a frame pad now

Cracking build buddy, love the blue and black on it. I’m just about to start my dp build this year. Almost got all the parts ready now to start. Looking at your build has given me the kick up the arse I need to motivate! 8)
