This build comes with a bit of a long story so bare with me, it’s not my usual build but it’s for a good cause.
The lad who owns this bike is the brother of a close friend of mine and Keiths, “Jamie” ( RIP bro ) who sadly passed away in February.
Steve, Jamie’s brother is also a good friend of ours and my neighbour, previously to losing Jamie, Steve also recently lost a close friend to suicide, so understandably he’s not been in a good place lately.
The circumstances of this plan started a few weeks ago when Steve saw me riding round our estate on my Ruffell rep, he was straight out and buzzing about the bike and said that he needed to get his built.
Steve is a VW man and has an orange bay window camper and also a T5, as we know burners go hand in hand with the V dub seen and he’d bought this mk2 Burner F&F about 3 or 4 years ago and got it powdered orange ( his favourite colour and also to match the bay ) but apart from getting a few parts ( new tuffs and suntour copy stem ) that’s as far as he ever got.
Also he doesn’t give a toss about spec or era correctness he just wanted a nice bike to match his Campers !
I did know he had it as he’d showed me it and mentioned building it a few times over the years, but I think the Ruffell re-sparked his interest.
This is when I had the idea of building it for him in secret, I spoke to his wife and told her about it and she said they were away on hols for a week soon so I could do it then.
The plan was a runner, so far we had an orange F&F, White tuffs, and a stem, that was all he had.
A call was made to Keith to get him on board and raid his parts bin and also I had a rummage in my own and between us we came up with enough junk I mean parts to get it built.
I had decided I wanted to do a Team Burner theme but it was crucial to keep with the orange and white.
I decided that it was gonna have a white front end and keep the orange at the back.
This meant that I had to get the forks stripped and re painted or powdered, Keith kindly donated some nice little brazed bars which luckily were already bare metal.
Another local RAD lad Jason (burnerboy) offered to get the forks and the bars powdered white at his works, which he got turned round in a day so that was awesome and saved me loads of time, thanks Jase.
Keith also donated a complete moody set of MX1000’s and tech3’s, a pair of welgo pedals and he bought the seat.
The brake set and pedals were stripped prepped and rattle canned in my garage along with the stem cap, a moody MX seat clamp and chain ring.
I also masked and rattled the front end of the frame in white to match.
The padset and decals were custom made by a chap called Joel from Freshfield Graphics on eBay, I cant recommend this guy enough, he turned these round in 9 days for me, great service and communication.
All that was left to do then was screw the thing together and wait for steve to return for the reveal

I don’t think it’s come out 2 bad considering I started it last Monday and finished it Saturday ready to hand over just last night.

It was a top notch build in such limited time.
