Terry Jenkins Freestylin Cover bike
« on: July 03, 2019, 10:26 AM »
Hi,

figured I'd start a bit of a build thread for my attempt a building a replica of Terry Jenkins Haro Master from his Freestylin' Cover shot.

For whatever reason that Freestylin cover, a can-can look down (or what ever it's technically called), just seemed to be always stuck in my head.

Any photo I could find was not much help in trying to see the details on what was already a blurry photo.

So it begins...

Part of the reason for doing this bike, I already had a Master frame and forks, and more importantly I have a couple of pairs of Space bars, so it was a good foundation for the build.

I also managed to get a Space Developments seat post from Damo (deeman) Wilkerson Sport build.

I chatted with Terry Jenkins about the bike and he still had a photo of the original bars from the bike which had some black details painted on to chrome Space bars.

First issue none of my Space bars were chrome... so stripped them down and sent them off to the chomers in May

Thank god for sunstrip!!

And a month later

Grips were low flange mushroom II which thankfully weren’t too hard to find

In the photo above it shows one detail that I’d previously missed... the third Tech 7 brake lever on the left side of the bars that he used for bar rides.

Time for some Tech 7 restoration...

Had a set of white/silver Tech 7s but needed to refinish them in black.

So a strip down, mask off the locking pin, then ready for primer.

Couple of interesting details on the bike, even though it’s a Team Master Frame, I thought it looked used he ran with Redline 401s and 36 hole Araya 7x.

Terry confirmed that this was the case. He always used 401s and 7x rims on that bike.

Pedals are Shimano DX (with reflectors) uggghhhh :-(

So many small details that are obvious in the online images so I figured I need to buy the original magazine. Thankfully  poorboysteev had one for sale so grabbed it and saw more details directly... blue brake blocks on the front and grip tape on the seat tube.

Another detail was a red decal on the seat stay. Terry couldn’t recall what it was, either a Bob Haro decal or a Space decal... 87 didn’t have the Bob Haro decal (and the position would be wrong) so Del made me up smaller Space decals to place there.

Wonder if it could be a Holeshot decal... it was the Holeshot competition after all.

SBD has been busy today and I got a few teaser pics... it’s gonna be a long wait before I get a chance to see it for real when I collect it on the way to Cleethorpes.

Probably the most painful thing I’ve had to go through (and I’ve had fooking cancer... twice) the reflectors are on the pedals.

Uggghhhhhhh  :uglystupid2:

Proper build this! a shame we see so few of them these days.
Quite like those flekkies  :-[

....but then I don't like DX's :D
Sixteen thirty-two. What is that? A year?   No, it's your top score on Pole Position.

Am loving this....... Top work!
Loved the bars when you put them up in the 'just had delivered' section and was excited to see what they were going on...... You haven't disappointed, choice of project, attention to detail, your skills and sbd has done a cracking job with the colour.
From an era when i was probably most into my riding. Cant wait to see it finished. This might be my most favouritist rad build yet definitely got the BMX factor for me.

Keep up the top work  :4_17_5:
😜🔫 i may look like I'm listening to ya,

Got the extra Tech 7 brake lever sorted today, minor stuff but I’ll be lacing the wheels after.
