The museum says 88, it has a lock and no packaging though.

It might not be as clear cut as that unfortunately (unless your eagle eye sees something I have missed) as Dia compe have been making tech 77 levers with pretty much exactly the same design for years.

I am hoping someone can help put an era to it based on the packaging style?

How are you able to tell the difference between them and the ones that are brand new and still sold today, for example at Custom Riders, which look identical in every way:

unless I'm missing somethhing?

I really don't know about that mate as I'm no expert, purely going off memory of other people's builds.

Rob (Pickle) would be the man to ask.

There are a few listings on eBay.com and the early 90's are date stamped. So probably later. I have always thought that a manufacturers packaging timeline reference section would be a great help to us all at times.

A packaging (or advert) timeline would be incredibly useful.

I like a challenge so I've been trying to be of some help. From what I've found the packaging is current or very recent. I searched the ?enjoy your ride? slogan along with dia compe, and most items that come up are still in stock in the same packaging design and colours.

I hope that is some help because that is  all I have got  :LolLolLolLol:

Your picture is showing a different and probably older DiaTech logo though !
It would be so much easier if manufacturers dated their packaging too.

The early ones are Japan stamped... the later ones up until present day are either stamped Taiwan or no stamp at all.  :daumenhoch:
I've no idea as regards timelines unfortunately.  :-\

Hmm all very intriguing, there's a person on that museum thread suggesting more modern Taiwanese made, I wonder how modern.

Just as I was starting to think the green / blue / yellow packaging suggests very modern, I found this post on a forum from the year 2000...

At least you have something with a rough date now. I guess it comes down to if it's for an early mid school build or a later one. For the price of the lever I would take a gamble on it and if it turns out to be what you are after, result. If not, you haven't skinted yourself on it. Just my opinion though.

If you can pin down when the Diatech logo changed you would be in a better position to judge if it is what you are after.

Well I have found a Diatech advert in a US magazine from the year 2000 with the same logo as in my first post of this thread, so the lever could have been made any time from 2000 to at least the year 2015.

Ha yes, a 15+ year window is considerably bigger than I had hoped for!

Just to conclude this thread I have now found that this packaging is still being sold in shops in 2021...

...so therefore I can say that the lever at the beginning of my thread can be dated to anywhere between at least the year 2000 up to 2021.  :P
