are tuffs essential on a mid 80's ride???
« on: February 20, 2007, 11:54 PM »
had tuffs bitd, and found them heavy, flexy and very poor braking. quickly changed over to araya aeros and found these much preferable. anyone else of the same school of thought??? in process of building up aero reflex and will have red large flange suzues with gold rims and red nipples. ??? is this acceptable for period of bike, or do you all think it should have tuffs???
any input much appreciated...........
thanks in anticipation of your feedback. Best wishes , Neil.

its kind of like asking what is the best caliper brake.

Yes, its the ACS BOA

But, we all pay big for MX1000's

Why?

they look cool.

Tuffs rule.

do they stop you??...........only joking. alloy rims will give me better braking though?????? as opposed to tuffs. also, tuff pads are essential for using with tuffs, or are the standard type dia-compe pads adequate???
thanks again for your advice to my inane questions.

I found that you really need tuff pads to get the best brakes. Not sure about other types such as ACS, Vans and the copies available but the Dia-Comp pads were pretty useless.
I have kool stop ones on my bike now and they aren't too bad but they are getting on a bit now so might have gone a bit hard.
I bought some copies from Wilkinsons a few weeks back for 70p, they are black, and look the same apart from not having writing on them. Not sure how perform yet though.

Before this turns into another 'Whats better Tuffs or......' thread  :2funny: I think its only right I tell you Tuffs are the ONLY way forward.

Its been debated on here several times and everyone finally agrees, just ask Graham (Ruler), he'll give you a 1000 reasons why you should go tuffs over anything else, just ask him  ;) ;) :D :D ;D

if its a freestyle bike then its gotta be tuffs  if its a out and out race bike then its gotto be spokes

if its a cross over sought of bike ie  skyway ta , mongoose, etc then tuffs   as they look more old school

In my opinion

dave do you wanna swap them wheels you got off jim for some alloy tuffs in black   ;)  maybe a bit of brown love aswell to make up the difference   :-*   or cash its up to you    you know them wheels spoil that picture dont ya   ;D
