Cheap Twin Pinch flights frm USA - what was the website
« on: February 26, 2007, 10:22 AM »
Billstups posted a link to a website in the states that is selling the new Twin PInch Redline Flights for $114 plus postage. Can't find the thread.

Anyone know what the web site is?

It's a matter of personal choice. The Flight II's look more like the size & shape of 401's but are double pinch. Prolines are a lot bigger but are single pinch....and cheaper. Old style arm decals do not fit Prolines because the recess is much wider.

I'm sticking  them onto a Hutch Pro Racer so want the old school look but don't want to buy original 401s as I will be using them.

So it will be the twin pinch flights then.

cheers San

prolines have stronger bolts
the 2 teeny ones in flights are like pastry

you'll see!

Is it just the bolts Graham or is it the threads in the arms?

You got  me worried now.

just the bolts

don't do them too tight and you'll be ok

the proline ones though, you can swing off. they won't snap.

There is no need to over tighten the bolts, unlike with profiles as you have an end bolt to snug things up and the twin pinch bolts to keep the arms in place. If memory serves each bolts has a blob of "locktight" type stuff on. Just tighten them up with the provided T bars (Flights only) and they will be fine.

the pinch bolts hold them on, not the end bolts!!

bit like the way a clamp on stem works

once it's tight you dont really need the end bolts
in fact mine work loose over time

That's what I said. Unlike Profiles which rely on the end bolt to be cranked up tight, you only use it to snug the assembly up on Flights and the pinch bolts tighten the arms on to the spindle. Bearing in mind the size of the splines, the pinch bolts only need to be tight enough to pinch the arm tight. As long as your locking compound prevents the bolts from working loose, there won't be a problem.

If you are sticking them on an OS bike for a OS look then I say go with Flights. If they were going on a new school but want a Retro look, go with the Prolines. I have had 2 sets of both and the Prolines look too chunky for a proper OS look. That's my opinion.

Got a one piece already on there Graham and I want a 3 piece to race with. Makes changing chainrings and maintenance a lot easier. I also have a pair of 9/16 JP (hutch) beartraps to go on there.  :daumenhoch:

Already got some shin pads, forgotten how painful it was. Amazing how you forget such painful memories from 20 years ago.

Well i've ordered the flights.

The prolines were $90 and the flights were $114, so only $24 in it.

Well worth the money methinks.
